Did/Do you have a job during school years?

When you were a student did you do part time jobs to pay minor expenses? Or if you are a student now, do you only study or do you work to? And what kind all works did/do you do? Pretty all my friends have done little jobs like babysitter, barmaid, shopkeeper. I think I'm the only one who has done NOTHING. I would love to gain money on my own but I'm so lazy :P

you're not the only there. i didn't do any part-time work too. it just didn't came into my mind because i didn't need extra cash. everything was provided by my mother. and i save money so if ever i needed money and my mom isn't there, i use my savings. ^__^ i remember though that i used my skill in cross-stitching and did a work for my teacher and received some money out of it. ^__^

Welcome in the club, secretbear:) For me it's like you, my parents give me enough money so I don't really need a job, but I'd love to have MY money so I could buy a lot of clothes and silly things without remorse xD Sorry I don't know what cross-stitching is O__o (I'm not english)

I started working when I was 16 working part time in a pharmacy and I was still in high school. When I first went to university I just worked part time but then had to start working 40 hours a week AND going to university full time so that I could afford to pay for it. My parents helped me in little ways like paying for my school books buy I could never expect them to pay for my university since it costs so much. I wish I lived in a country where uni is free!!!

Where do you live? In America? I'm glad I live in Italy because I think that if I had to pay my university then I would have had to work too. And I'm sooo lazy :)

WHen I was at school the philosophy back home was that your job was school. No working while in school unless things really were bad and there was no other choice, but when that happened unfortunately it was bad enough that kids would have to quit school and work full time. I don't remember kids my age, at that time, that were in high school or university and working at the same time. It was usually one thing or the other. The most that some of us did - because it was the in thing to do I think:) - was work in a summer program for the city. They would find us small part time jobs within the city during the summer. It was usually something like 3-5 hours a day with openings in museums, child care, green spaces etc. I was lucky that money was not a problem so I'm not sure if I even thought about it then. Things are quite different nowadays even back home, and we see most kids having a part time job while studying maybe it's not a bad idea come to think of it, a different kind of responsibility. I don't know. Plus now I"m on the other side of the financial situation and I see the problems we parents have to have our kids go into college/university. It's scary, really. Lots of parents can't afford paying for their kids higher education and kids do have to work for it. Many end up their courses with huge loans that need to be paid off. Scary really, it's not way to start a life.

For me too the wiser thing would be to work on holidays. But in holidays I don't want to do nothing :) I can understand the college problem. Fortunately here in Italy we don't pay for college

Hello dear Rowena. When I was at college at seventeen in my second year, I did some extra work at home without having to go out. It was very simple work by just roll the elastic band in a roll, but the earnings from were not high, rather low, just enough to have little bit extra money to use. I remember that I earned enough to buy a shirt, but I am sorry to let you know that this shirt was stolen after I wore it for about a month when it was airing out. This was the only experience that I have ever had during school years. Thanks for your discussion, dear friend.

I do not work during the school year. The reason why I do not work during the school year is because I like to focus all, or most of, my time and attention to nothing but the school year in itself. Sometimes I wish I did have some extra money in my pocket however. For instance, when I go out with my friends who have jobs, and they purchase cloths as if they do not have clothes, it makes me wish that I did have a job. That way I can freely spend my time, money, and cash whenever I want. Perhaps I can get a job at Macdonalds.

Ciao :) I think it depends on the income, I mean if your parents need more money or if they can pay for your tuition by themself other that the bills, food, clothes etc. I tried once but I couldn't study after all the work-hours I had, so I left the job and I almost was hospitalized cause I was too stressed doing both things, so you're not the only one ;). Maybe when I feel better I will tutor some students (sai dare ripetizioni) because I heard it's not too stressful, they pay fine and you don't need to work 5-8 hours and of course you have time to study ;)

It's a good idea to tutor students! I'm good at school and I've given help to my friends for free, but I go crazy when they don't understand nothing!

Hi,there! When I was a student in the university,I once had a part-time job.I remember that was the time when I was a sophomore, one of my friends invited me to work as a tuitor. So I became a tuitor for another lady and taught her English. She is a little bit older than me and would like to learn more about English so that she could find a better job.I think it's good to do a part-time job cause it could give us more experiences and we can also learn many things from that:) Thanks for the discussion and have a nice day! I wish you all the best in the coming new year^_^

Well, in the past I have helped uncles with their garden and they gave me some money to thank me, does it counts? I'd like as well to earn some cash, but I'm too busy studying now.

Yes I did work at part time job in high schoola and through college. I think it helps to build resposiblity and character. I wish while I was in college I would have interned or volunteered more in my field then working fastfood/retail jobs, I believe I would have had better standing once I entered the job world.
