Thats good to know. Lol they thought a lot of weird things back in the day. Like the 4 humors. I can't remember what they are but I remember they were funny.
I've never really thought about this before. my emotion is always in my chest so I always connect it.
thank you

A young girl I used to know "thought" with her chest. When she had personal difficulties, especially dealing with her difficult mother, she would get these awful chest pains so bad I thought she was having a heart attack. I'm more the cerebral type, lol.

Well, Your feelings comes from the heart. Think about it, when you look at the one you do love do you not feel something from your heart. I think that is why people say they love someone with their heart. If you get hurt from some one you love, you feel that in your heart, so if someone do something great for you, you do feel that also from your heart.
Happy new year

I think we say we love with our heart because our body is build up from heart.
For the intrusment, we knoe that heart is the most important part of our body: blood is circalated from it.All of our other parts including brain need the oxigen and energy, blood is the carrier of them, abd heart is the power of it's circulation.
So,when we say those words,it means that we love him'her with our whole body.

I'm sorry for that I have some word in addition.
In the question you had also refered spirit. We must know that the spirit is the strech of our brain or our body. It's not actually exist in the world from some religions,so the word heart is more correctly than "spirit".

Probably because our heart is the organ that drives the blood or life force in our bodies. I am not sure. I know that in Elizabethan England, and in the time of William Shakespeare, it was believed that you loved with your liver. "I love you with my whole liver" that would sound hilarious to us. Yes, love is somewhere in our mind and in our spirit and soul, but to some people that is the "heart" or essential being of a person. It is interesting how perspectives change as the times change and as our understanding changes.

Actually love it come from heart, and we can say that love is came from mind or spirit, because love is an imotion. that your mind feel, actually the main purpose of your question is really make me dazzy, what i know from my experince even do my mind will tell me that i have to chose this person but my heart will always insist that this not the person i want.after this tell me waht you feel.

When you fall in love.
YOu make so many desicions in your life. You make so many choices to live with.
This all because of love you don't think about yourself first ... its the one you love comes before every thing in your life. You have different theories for your love.
And this is all because for your heart!! Because a brain always thinks about itself first. It is belived that brain is the most selfish thing on earth. And in love you forget that "selfishnes" and love with all your strenght..!!!
Thats is why its said that you love with your heart and not with your brain..!!

I think that we also love with the WILL which can be said as a movement of the "heart" not the organ that pumps blood, of course....
anyhow, when we love someone we do tend to get emotional whether it is a romantic love or not - with disagreemensuts, with expectations, with surprises, anticipations, fears etc... our heart does beat faster, harder, or even skip a beat. perhaps that is why it is said.

I do not think that the heart is the center of love. Basically, we are guided by our brain and the neurons surrounding the brain, there's this part called hypothalamus which sends signals to the brain and being feed to perhaps our emotions but not necessarily the heart.

I really have no idea how emotions got connected to our heart. It could be that when we feel it affects our breathing and chest so that we feel pain there. Its probably some ancient culture and tradition. The heart shape looks nothing like a real heart anyways.
Maybe its just an expression because the heart is one of the most important parts of our body.

I personally think we say we love with our heart because we are confusing love and lust. When you are attracted to someone your blood starts pumping a little harder and you have all sorts of physical reactions. We can actually "feel" the love, and it seems to be coming from the heart- because in that physical sense it is. However, when there is a deep and meaningful love that does come from the head and the spirit. That type of love is not felt in the same physical sense. When that type of love ends for whatever reason, again we feel the physical side effects. Our chest tightens in pain, our breathing is more difficult, and our hearts are effected. Again, this is not actually the love but the physical effects of pain. Anyway, that is my take on it. I hope even if you don't agree with what I said that my explaination was understandable.
