If you can gain the same salary, you'll choose to work in a big city or a smaller one? Some people say that working in a big city will meet more opportunities and get success with many kinds of methods ,and maybe good for kids' education--through I have not be married. However, expense for live in big city is more high than that in a smaller one.life quality, environment, pressure, and friends, many many things to consider of. Do you have some particular suggestion?Don't be closefisted,,my friends

This question is really hard to answer. Big city, is full of opportunities, but at the same time, you have to sufer lots of stress and competition. Small city, maybe is not full of opportunities, but you can feel youself. To me, I grow up in a small city, I'm study in a big city, so I like both, maybe I will back to my home, can feel my home, maybe I will stay in the big city to develop my business. It's really hard to answer now.

It depends on the province or state that you live in, not in whether you live in a small or big city. Usually housing and that includes everything is usually fifty percent of what you make, so if you live in New Jersey for instance, you might get a salary of $2000 a month, but the housing costs would be $1000 including taxes and insurances. If you live in New York State, you might make $3000 but the housing would be $1500. And if you live in Canada, the salary in British Columbia is higher than that in Manitoba, and consequently the cost of housing, etc. I love living in the city, because of the opportunities, but then you have to figure transportation costs. And in the country, you have to figure transportation costs to get the children to school, whereas in the city, they may be able to walk. In the country, there is isolation, if a child is hurt on the machinery, you might have to get him air bused into the hospital, and he might not make it, whereas in a city, it would be easier. In a country, you might be safer and the food better and more nutritious while in the city, you might not have a garden and the food might not be as good for you and what is might be too expensive. So there are benefits to both. It was what you prefer.

You are powerful of persuasion.I like what you said and generally I agree with you.and I think the same salary between big and small city is not static.IN big city we may get more opportunities and salary will increase in shorter time than in small city

I personally dont like big cities. Big cities are more polluted, more expensive and very noicy. Always everybody on a rush. I dont like that type of life. I prefer a quiet life with a lot of green around. Currently i am in a middle size city that is not so big and not so small. Even here, i dont find the real peace i want. But I dont have any other option cos my kids have to go to schools and we have to work. But, i have purchased a small plot of land in a village type of area and wish to move there when kids grow up.

With all do respect I think everyone is putting a lot of these "big city" "small city" attributes in a box and that's not necessarily fair. Typically, I suppose, it does cost more to live in a big city, but that's now always necessarily the case -- it really depends on which city you're talking about. Houston is one of the biggest cities in the US and it has a relatively low cost of living. There are also places in Houston that would be AWFUL places to send you child for public education and then there are others that are PHENOMENAL and so the school thing is really a mute point as well. One thing you're definitely right about though, is that there are typically more opportunities in a big city and it's something that I'm going to be faced with VERY soon. Do I want to stay close to my hometown, my family (one of my primary reasons) or do I want to go to a big city with more opportunities, afterall I paid a lot for my education. But I don't think there's any real definitive answer for me. It will ultimately come down to what's right for me at that time. What does the job pay? What are the benefits associated with the job? What's the location? The weather in that particular location? The job itself? Is it a TON or money but a lot of boring monotonous tasks? Is is less money, but a lot more freedom? All of these things are HUGE in the scheme of things and without knowing each individual aspect and weighing them all together it would be impossible for me to pick. Good discussion however. Best wishes.

I know the cost is higher in big city, but there are still more chances in big city. I like to work in a big city if the salary is the same for me to work in the samll city. And you are right, the education conditions shall be better in big city. And it is the same the big city will offer better hospital service.

Yes, there are definitely more opportunities in a big city but personally I am a homing pigeon and like nothing better than returning home early and staying put. Big cities seldom offer you the luxury of enjoying home and office together. What with the traffic snarls, pollution, stress factor, so many strangers, maddening number of activities to catch up with and keep up with the Jones, you are definitely not living a relaxed enjoyable life and office. Instead a small town with the same salary (like many industrial townships) offer you the best of both the worlds. Most of your neighbours are your friends with whom you can just walk upto and catch up on any given weekend, your children can walk down to the school and play on the way back (without the fear of being kidnapped or mowed down by a passing, insensitive traffic), the local grocer stocks most of what you want, the backyard village provides fresh products of the land, the close-knit community is always there both during festivities and hour of need and in general it’s an idyllic life. But yes, the job security (so rare these days) should be there to make you feel comfortable and what with the savings of small-town living, one can surely afford to build a house for post-retirement living.

I am from a small town but now live in London due to the work I do, I love London but even after only 3 years I cannot see myself here for much longer as the cost of living is so high and it is quite stressful, but move away and wages fall and jobs are rare so the only option I see is living outside of the city and traveling in for work, in which case you'll be getting the same higher wage but paying to travel in....you can't win really. Although I think everyone should work in a big city at some point even if just for 6 months it definitely develops you as a person...and raises your blood pressure hehe!!
