So, there is a my lotter who must be having some kind of sport envy, and posting discussions to mock and undermine the great American sport of football. He cites theft of sport name as the first offense. He also thinks its wonky how we have many call offs and sick days for the super bowl. Also, he calls our players a bunch of thick headed buffoons or some such thing. I was going to post a reply to his discussion, but then I thought, why encourage him. That, and why give him the responses for being so thick himself. No, instead I thought I'd post my thoughts here. He wonders why 'American football' is called football, since in his mind it is so obviously not football. Never mind that American football descends from rugby football. It has a right to the name. Anyway, its our sport and we'll darn well call it what we want to. Second, he calls our players a bunch of thick headed buffoons or some such thing. First, those players go onto the field with a play plan and a strategy that would make any general proud. Second, apparently he's never heard any of these players speak. Thirds, there is a draft age barrier which means most of our meat head players actually hold a degree!!! And fourth, you've never seen a league so caught up in charity activity...especially if its soccer your following. Now for the Superbowl call off cheap shot. I don't think I need to say much more than when is the last time football made the news for its fans over running the field trampling and killing people along the way? It doesn't happen, because as much as we love our game and our sport, we still remember that it is just a game.
