Kids who steal...

A 9-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy used a gift card to pick the lock on the back door of a home a block away. They then took about $200 in wrapped presents that were located on a kitchen table, including Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers CDs. The couple who lived in the home returned from some Christmas Eve shopping to find the house broken into, and the presents gone.
Do this say something about the society we are in today or is this just an isolated incident. I could understand if they were in a store and didn't relalize what they were doing, but when you break into a house and steal gifts that is something quite different. What do you think?

After I read this post I thought to myself I wouldn't be able to pick a lock and I looked at my husband and asked him if he could. Then I forgot he is a lock smith Theres your sign I guess he could.
I have 2 children and at ages 11 and 9 neither of them would be able to pick a lock.

First of all, they had to have seen someone break in using a credit card or shopping card before. I have done this when I lock myself out of the house. I didn't know that you could break in like this until a friend of mine showed me how one day when I locked myself out of the house.
It is sad to say that we have children this young who are committing criminal acts. A few months ago, we had two children ages 10 and 12 who broke into a ladies house and stole her baby. The baby was only a few months old and they done this while she was sleeping in the room right next to it.
When the two children were arrested, they said that they wanted to be it's new mommy. The only reason that they police found out who it was, was because the 10 year old got cold feet when she seen the police at the ladies house. The lady had woken up and realized that her child was gone and that the window to the nursery had been broken into.

This is very sad to hear this. But even though it was wrong I can't help but to feel sad for the kids. Were these very poor children? I wonder why these kids were out by themselves to begin with. What kind of legal punishment did they receive.

it is sad to say that this sort of thing is very common around christmas time, especially where i live.people get deperate and they know people have presents under their trees and some people are easy targets.i try never to leave the house for long around this time of year for fear of my house being broken into.it makes you wonder where these kids that age learnt how to pick locks and why were they out at that time without their parents knowing where they were.cheers sue

it is quite surprising that how those kids were able tyo open the lock with a gift card. Again they must have been very poor so that they did such crime. I think they did this without knowing what they are doing at all. But whatever may be, they should have taught not do do that.

Not only would i like to hear good answers to the questions you asked, but also, HOW DOES a 9 and 5 year old learn how to pick a lock with a gift card? Really? And if they are smart enough to know how to pick a lock, where they not smart enough to realize that their parents would want to know where all the stuff came from? Or was it the parents who put them up to it? God only knows, and you have to ask now a day!

I think stealing is taking something from a person wihtout intending to return it or pay for it. It is not a good thing stealing someones gift. It is a crime to handle stolen goods. We have to report it to police if some one found stealig from us.
