My cat is about 3 years old but he is still just as playful as he was when we got him at 1 year old. When did your cat become less playful?

I agree it depends on the cat -- they are all individuals. However, it also depends on what you call playful. He may have been much more playful before you got him, since you got him at 1. In general, they seem to usually be very, very playful and into everything from about 6-8 weeks up til around 6-8 months, when they seem to taper off, but still remain playful. However, I have seen kittens who are never that playful even at 8 weeks, and older cats that are quite playful.

I've had two cats that were playfull well past 15 years old. Then I've a few that never really liked to play at all. It really depends on the cat.

My Columbus cat is 11 years old and still plays like a kitten. He likes to jump at a dangling toy on a string. On the other hand, my Waffles cat, a chubby calico, has stopped pushing toy balls around and has taken to sleeping on the bed or wrapped up in the comforter. She's only three years old.

Depends on the cat. I've got a 11 year old that is still a kitten at heart. I've got a 2 year old who won't play and never has. It all depends on the cat. Beavior changes such as playing and then not playing could also be an underlying medical condition that has surfaced. If he seems lethargic and has always been energetic, I'd call your vet and take him in for a checkup. Many serious illnesses and conditions go unnoticed by the animals' owners as they just don't pay attention to the small signs such as this.

My cat is seven years old. He has always been playful (some might even say 'insane') and does funny things. He still is very much the kitten he always was. He likes to hide and watch for someone to go up the stairs; then he will run out and grab thier leg. Then run off (and laugh, I assume). We have hard wood floors, and he runs and slides on the rugs. Runs up to the dog and smacks her, then runs off. (Dog loves it, wags her tail).
