Right !!.As a newbie found Ubuntu a superb Linux alternative for windows.
But over the time I find OpenSuse and CentOS as a more satble one.

Yea I use Ubuntu which is an easy Linux distro to use. I have always wanted to try fedora I have a dvd of fedora core 5 but havent ever install it. I guess it is because Ubuntu hasnt ever pissed me off like windows has. Enough of my ranting

LOL, that's funny. Windows certainly can piss you off once in awhile. I've found that it runs a lot better without antivirus and antispyware (you still need firewall, and you need to lock the core): http://invincible-windows.blogspot.com/ But it's still slower and clunkier than Linux any way you slice it, and one wrong move can mess it up. One skill I find indispensable if you're a download junkie in Windows is drive imaging. Then you have to defragment, clean the registry, reboot after Patch Tuesday, and hope their patches don't throw your machine into a blue screen or reboot cycle!
You make a good point: "If it's not broke, don't fix it." If Ubuntu meets your needs, and does so without problems, what's left for you to look for? Ubuntu is my distro of choice, too. Of course I'm dual-booted with XP, but I only use it for projects that only Windows apps can handle. And since I have it locked down, I simply turned off automatic updates and leave it alone. For personal use, Ubuntu is so much more convenient. Salute!

Ubuntu is my choice, and it's a descendant of Debian. I haven't tried Debian yet; I don't know for sure if I'll ever get around to it. Now that the USB bug appears to have been patched up, Ubuntu works perfectly. I even ordered factory-pressed CDs for 32 and 64-bit machines, and put a sticker on mine to make it proper. 8-)
