Ok, so right now I'm trying to type around my cat that is clawing me almost to death while he kneads my shirt.
He's not fixed, he's, well, you know, doing something he shouldn't be doing,)male hormones if you know what I mean), and he's about to get kicked off my lap if he doesn't stop.
This cat goes through this routine daily, but even when he's not doing this, and is lying on my lap or beside me in bed, his claws still get at me.
If we ever find the cat clippers, I'm going to deal with it. Argh, he's poking holes in my clothing at an alarming rate.
I think he knows he's in trouble as he keeps looking at me, then over at my monitor.
He's off my lap now, and cleaning himself after his nasty little routine.

Ummm, is he too young to be fixed yet? If not, please get that little darling neutered so he doesn't make any other little darlings that don't turn out so lucky as him.
I can entirely relate to the pain, however, as we have 3 cats and they're all lap cats. The biggest problem is the "baby"
who is now 2 years old. We got him at 4wks old (a rescue) and I am the only mommy he has any memory of, so I feel rather like a pin cushion. But it's part of them, so I deal with it as all of us cat lovers do. Try to be patient, and try to teach him to tuck his paws under when snuggled up on you. It takes ultimate patience and steadfast determination, but you can get there. Good luck with him.

I'm so glad to hear that you feel that way about declawing - never an option, as far as I'm concerned. I have lots of cat scars too - they just come part and parcel with the cats.
As to the finances, I don't know where you are, but here in St. Louis, our local Animal Protective Association and Humane Society offer spaying/neutering for $19.99 several times each year. Maybe you could call yours or their equivalent to ask about such programs. They could also direct you to other organizations that offer low-cost neutering services. I hope you can manage to do it. His little predilictions do sound rather gross.
You clearly have a true and good heart and personally, I'm glad you're around. Your cats are lucky to have you, and I'm sure they feel the same.

Thanks.
We do have a low cost spay/neuter clinic in the city, $70 I think for males, but they have to be up to date on their shots.
We got our youngest done with shots and ear mite medication for less than $200, the older one will cost just a little more when it's his turn. We also want to wait until we have transportation as it's too cold to travel on transit right now. The youngest was done in the summer.
He will definately be fixed in the new year.

We had ours neutered well before he reached adulthood. It's costly around here, too. So I sympathize. Some time after he was neutered, he started to 'become intimate' with any of the pillows in the house. I asked the Vet, he said it isn't uncommon for a neutered boy cat. He's just doing what feels good. Since I would rather he not do it in my presence, I will pick him up and drop him on the floor. (Because he is neutered, he doesn't leave a mess or anything).
He has his claws. Sometimes he kneads; like when they were babies they did it to the mommy cat to bring her milk so they could nurse. They remember that comfort and love. Sometimes he uses his claws when he kneads, but I do not believe he knows he is using them.

Oh, he's very aware that he's using them, they get caught up in everthing.
Our youngest realized that he was fixed when he tried to do his routine, he would grab some blanket in his mouth when he was going. He has tried it a couple times since being fixed, and after a few minutes, he realizes he can't do it anymore and stops.

You can use regular human nail trimmers to take the sharp point off of cat's claws. I do this frequently with my cats, because I hate being a pin cushion, and one of the cats like to play tag, where he will sneak up on you or reach out and "tap" your leg as you walk by. Not a big deal if you're wearing pants, but shorts is another story. I would just nip the very tip, so as to make them less lethal.
And as far as his "ritual", I would definitely have himneutered, but that may not solve the problem, due to his age. You should check into your local spay/neuter programs. My vet does a monthly free thing once a month through the humane society. Many have a similar program where even if it may not be free, it may be at a substantially discounted rate
