What kind of arts or crafts do you do?

I'm thinking of going back to doing some crafts.
It will keep me off the computer for a while and
it will make me feel better knowing I am doing
something constructive for a change. I have learned
how to knit but that can be done while watching TV.
I would like something that requires me to use my brain
as well as my hands. Got any suggestions? What kind of art
and/or crafts do you do?

I do a little bit of everything. I don't quite know if you can call painting a "craft" but do. I've been painting and drawing since a kid, my first oil painting I did when I was a mere 6 years old! I still ocassionally paint, but now in watercolors. As far as craft "crafts" I do a lot of Native American based/themed crafts...dreamcatchers, beaded earrings, suede pouches with beadwork on them, Native American styled teddy bears. Beaded earrings would definitely be the ticket to using both brains and hands...might add VERY time consuming too
Here's a picture of my teddy bear I make...next time will show you the earrings--

Does this imply that those of us who are at our PCs right now, responding you to are doing nothing constructive??? But jokes apart, I used to paint a lot and it does require a lot of mental and physical involvement. You can also go for crafts involving designs with beads and other embellishments. They would surely take your eyes off TV.

Yes definitely so. Each and every of my responses (irrespective of the length) is well thought-out and constructed and I never respond to those discussions on which I feel nothing much can be written.

I learned knitting too this year I mean the year 2007..!! But as I am only the biginner so I need my brain as well as my hand to do knitting with concentration..!!
I have another thing to do that is playing my guitar as I am again a biggener in that so it takes away all of my concentration.
And I Even love making small things out of clothes..!! I make denim purses and hand bags by my old jeans..!! It is really a good and constructive time pass and my friends even love it...!!!Friends get very excited by seeing such trendy purses with me..!! Its really good.
I even like sketching. I have full big file loaded of my sketches!!
These are the things I love doing ..as art!! It all involves my imagination too.

I stamp and design greeting cards. It's fun to make something from a piece of paper that turns out to make someone's day complete....I have made almost 400 I have sent to Afghanistan for our troops to use. Right now I am working on Valentines to send to them. I also am a writer who does poetry and frames it.....I sell them at craft sales. The greeting cards I really score on and sell tons of them! But mostly I just like doing them!

I love to do that too except I use the computer to make borders and stuff on them I also like to play with software programs to make the cards look nice and professionally done and I write my own poems or notes on it too but have not send it out to the troops that is very nice of you and very meaningful...

I'm kind of into making rugs lately. It's something that I can put in my lap and work on while playing games with my kids or helping them with their homework. I like the shaggy rag rugs the best. The one in the picture was made from old jeans and t-shirts.

Wow! The rag looks so beautiful. I make rag rugs too from old clothes but they are square and more of an utility item and never so beautiful.

Pretty much if it is done with a needle, I do it. Except knitting. I can crochet and don't see the point of doing knitting as they are so similar. I do scrapbooking and any kid craft I can find with my 7 yo GD. I am a craft nut from way back. Started embroidery at age 8, sewed my first skirt at age 10 (out of upholstery fabric!) and madea ll my own clothes all through high school. Started crewel in 7th grade, needlepoint in 8th grade , ceramics in 10th grade. Learned crochet at age 19, quilting and applique quilting at 21 and doll creation at 25. Don't do all that anymore due to an eye injury but was sure good at it and loved it. Obsessed comes to mind....

I can't say as i do it often anymore, cause i dont usually have the time or the space to spread my stuff out onto an empty table or whatever, but scrap booking is a really neat craft. I like doing the baby scrap booking, or ones for kids. they make awesome gifts for people that have kids, or grandma's or aunts, anyone who would enjoy fun pictures of kids, or animals, you can really do anything with it. And i dont know if you have a dollar store there or not, or a similar store... But here you can get lots of scrapbooking things at the dollar store.

I like to crochet and partake in different types of needlework such as cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery....
I sometimes sew but am not proficient at it
my daughter does all these but also enjoys latch hooking
I want to learn to tat and also how to do punch needle embroidery

A good 'brain-craft' I encourage people to do is beadwork with a specific design in mind. A project that forces you to count and keep track of a pattern or color scheme. I am very particular with creative detail as it strengthens the left side of our brain where activity in creative reasoning and imagination overrides deductive reasoning and analytical thought.

I love doing scrapbooking, and since my s/o gave me a new camera for Christmas, my scrapbooking just got bumped up another level lol. It's fun, to save events, and special trips, days, etc in scrapbook form. I started 3 years ago when I moved 1600 miles and started a new life with the love of my life. I started one for all of our special times together, and it has now grown to that one, plus a new one when that one got full, so I decided to break it up by year. One for our pup, one for each of our careers, and one that I am going back to old pictures to highlight my life from Texas to PA. There are so many elements available now that it is so much fun. I got both of my daughters started doing it too. And you can spend as much or as little as you want.
A couple of my pages are included on my profile page, pictures, if you would like to take a look.

Before I got addicted to the computer I was highly addicted to scrapbooking. I had just had a baby so I obviously had a ton of pictures. At first I was little scared to because I was worried that I was ruining the pictures but I found out they have scrapbook tape so they can be removed easily if need be. Also, the scrapbook will be a great keepsake that he will hopefully pass down. I love buying the little embellishments to adorn the pages with. It can become an expensive hobby but I shop at Hobby Lobby(a local craft store) when they have the scrapbook supplies on sale and I also go to Mighty Dollar. They have the same stuff for cheap prices.
