I have been vegetarian for 22 years and on 1st november this year i decided to go vegan, lost about three stone in weight and felt ill and tired all the time. Are there any healthy vegans out there who are happy with their diet and actually enjoy the lifestyle???

I was vegan for 4 years, till I discovered organic animal products and meat. I still am pretty much vegan though... the only pain I have is eating out; why ust everything have butter in it?
I'm quite the omnivore, physiologically speaking. My blood group ( A ) can make use of anything and cope with most things in moderation. One blood group really cannot do well without animal protein and I think it is O (can't be bothered to go to kitchen and get book...). Do you know your blood group?
I've known a few people fail to go vegan (and some veggie). They just do not realise that going vegan doesn't just mean stopping eating animal products but that they actually have to eat veg and fruit, not just potatoes and beans _
However, I assume a veggie of 22 years is pretty savvy on what their body needs. Perhaps trying again in the summer months would be better. Our bodies require more input during winter months, not only to fight off disease but in the simple matter of keeping us warm! And November through December is hectic, chaotic and stressful at the best of times! Not a good time to put your body through the rigor of a sudden change in diet.
I'd really suggest trying again as there should be no reason why going from 22 years of veggie to 2 months of veganism should do so much damage every time. I think it was a one off, just bad timing.

Hey ShardAerliss, i'v been a vegetarian/vegan for 7 years and the total vegan for 1-2 years. I'm a Blood Type O and seem to be ok with tofu. I'm also a bodybuilder so everything i eat is high in protein, soy protein shakes tend to help a lot. And i also take Flaxseed oil caps for my joints. Being vegan was very easy for me i just droped the skim milk and added lite soymilk and soy protein powder.

I have a vegan diet. I became a vegetarian when I was 4 years old. I am allergic to cow's milk. So I drank soya drinks and had carob instead of chocolate. Gradually I became a vegan. I went to a vegan event where there was very much information. I found out that with a vegan diet it is very important to make sure that you get enough Vitamin B12 and Iron. I feel quite healthy and fit. I am happy. I know that some people struggle at first but give it some time after having Vitamin B12 and Iron supplements and I am sure that you will feel fine. Websites like the Vegan Society have lots of information for vegans. There are many other useful Internet sites for vegans too. Good luck.
