Do you read words or ideas?

There are people who have to read every word in a text, while others can grasp the idea of a sentence or a paragraph by giving it only a quick glance. Those belonging to the first category rely on the sound, they feel the need to repeat the words in their mind, while the others rely on the image, photographing more words at once or even big fragments on a page. To which category do you belong?

well .... i think it depends on the type of text i read... if i have good knowledge of the subject the author is speaking i can grasp it easily otherwise i too have to read the entire text word by word to understand it.

that's hard to say.English is not my mother language and when I read English I always have to read every word in the sentence but for mother language I can grasp the main idea from a glance.
what's more,if we read a newpaper or something like this we always give no focus read, while read word by word for abstruse ones.

I tend to grasp ideas more and not get too wrapped up in every word. That is one thing that I have been working onm because words are what really makes the idea great.

Think i belong to the second category but i read a lot and, fast too, on a good day i can take a normal book (about 200 pages) on 2 hours or less
