In china ,Young people usually get several red package with money in it from eldership ,such as grandparents,parents..
We called hongbao or yasuiqian .Do you have ?

Yeah, kimiy, as the descendants of the dragon, we, Chinese in Malaysia do follow the traditional culture of our ancestors to give hongbao to the younger generation. This is always done during Chinese New Year or other grand occasions of celebrations like wedding, birthday etc. It is believed by doing this it would bring good luck and fortune to the receivers. Of course it brings much joy to the latter who are especially the children during Chinese New Year. The more hongbao they received the merrier they will be.

We use the fookien word for that more often. it's "ang pao" am i right? :)

Yes, Kimiyu. I used to have it during Chinese New Year but not until I got married. It's my turn to give the 'hongbao' to children.
Despite the fact, my mother-in-law would still give me and my husband the 'hongbao' representing a good and prosperous year ahead. She believe it'll brings us luck!
