Don't believe everything your Doctor tells you

Is or are there something or somethings that your Doctor told you that you later on figured out were wrong? Your Dentist? Psychologist/pyschiatrist? So far: My Dentist told me not to bite down on anything hard with my front bonded teeth. Tried that and my gums went white. My gums were dying. So I started eating soft apples and the apples seemed to massage the blood back into my gums. Carrots, started to bend my bonded teeth, so I don't do them, but you have to use those teeth in the front and not just for bread either! Take these pills and you will be less depressed. I went to fill them and there was an entire list of comfort foods that I couldn't eat if I filled that prescription. Nuts, chocolate, ice cream, etc. I figured to heck with that, then I would be even more depressed. I went out and had ice cream with chocolate sauce and nuts on top. I felt so much better. Some of my friends took that medicine and are now addicted plus they still can't eat any fun foods. I'm addicted to ice cream and very happily so. So what have you been told by medical professionals that you've learned not to believe?

I do not trust doctors anymore at all! I have been lied to too many times and so have a few people I know have also been lied too! I starting to think that doctor's only get into the profession for the money, not because they genuinely care about people. If they cared, they would be more thorough. As I understand it, they get paid for each patient they see. I guess that is why I am hurried in the doctor's office....he wants to get me out of there so he can see the next person and get paid....

I think its depend of what is your sickness. But for me, monitoring and having a regular check up with your physician is a good. We need it to prevent a more conflicated situation arise if we have a serious illness that are deposit to our body.

Oh absolutely, we need to have regular check ups. It's just that Doctors are human and make mistakes. So if they say something, you may need a second opinion or to check on it yourself or to double check on the internet or with friends, etc. Just letting people know to be careful and why. Take care and thanks for responding.

lol...lots of things. My husband's apharmacologist and I rarely follow the doctor's advice till I consult my husband. Before I was married, I would blindly follow a doctor's advice and when it didn't work, I would go to another doctor who said the first one was wrong! My cousin was once prescribed a medicine that didn't work on him at all and he was bed-ridden for about a week before we got to know. My husband got him something else (ok, I'm a dunce in this...so I don't know the names of the medicines) and my cousin was up and about in an hour. So, I've learnt not to trust what all doctors....I'm sure there are a few good ones out there...but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It all depends on what he tells you. Pills are a dangerous thing, because there are side effects and what works for one, does not work for another. I cannot take hydroxycut for instance and there is a pink combination diet product I cannot take because I get rather light headed. I had to take tranquillizers when my grandmother passed and I found that I got very light headed and dozy, so I only took half the amount and then quit. But I am lucky in that I do not have the addictive gene in me, but still the same there were other effects that were just as bad. Your doctor sounds like a pill pusher. Have you tried trying another doctor?

Right you are Suspenseful, he was a pill pusher. I have a different Doctor now. Hydroxycut and some diet pills do have some side effects that really range from person to person. At one point, they gave everyone tranquilizers when a relative passed, my Mom was given some and they had her on such high doses that she would start things and forget about them. She boiled a pan dry and didn't remember she was going to boil some eggs. She just walked off without a thought about it again. I had to follow her around until it wore off and tell her to cut the dosage or she'd burn the house down and never remember even putting the flat iron on. They were very addicting and my Mother, like you, didn't have the addiction gene, so she just went off them after a short period of time. Her brother had passed in his 40s. She had had a fight with him and never made up with him. We always think we have time, but often we don't. Thank you very much for your response.

You are right. If your doctor told you bad news, don't trust it. You'd better to find one or two more doctors. In the past I have experienced a very terrible case when I was pregnant. The doctor said I had cancer and it made me so sad. It is not true at all. Some doctors are very bad. They want to earn more profit so that they frighten you by a serious case. I really hate it. I remember at that time I was so scared all the time and sometimes I couldn't help crying. It is the nightmare.
