Happy new year to all. I want to know how to improve the English communication level. I am working in a Multi-National company for the past four years and now I am the Manager of our company. But the major problem I face is I am still struggling to speak in English fluently. There are no facilities available in our company to improve my communication. I am supposed to speak to atleast two to three United States clients on a day. The first help I got to improve my communication is one of my friends told that I must first learn to listen to their accent and then start speaking like them. Please help me with your opinion...

I think its the problem few of the non- English speking people face in speaking it fluently. I think you have good writing comunication. When talking over phone, try to speak slowly as western people don't understnd if we spek in speed. Listen carefully and then answer. When you are in face to face communication, make it a point to look at the eye of the person while you speak. this gives confidence.

I really wouldn't advise you to take your friend's advice, in trying to speak in an American accent. America is a big country and I have noticed that accents vary from State to State, or from north to south, and my feeling is that you'll become more muddled. Accents also come with their own slang, which is often thrown into conversation.
I am actually English and even on our small island of a country, there are many different accents, and slang words and phrases, which makes it very difficult for somebody to learn proper English, as their pattern of conversation is different. From reading your discussion, I did notice a couple of things though, which I will point out to you, if you don't mind. It might just help. Generally, your written English is very good, but I know how difficult it is to respond to somebody quickly and fluently, in conversation. The main thing I noticed is that you mix your tenses up. For instance, you said...
"I am working in a Multi-National company for the past four years and now I am the Manager of our company."
I'll try to explain this in simple terms. "the past four years" suggests past tense... something which happened in the past. What happened in the past, in this instance, was that you "were" working for the company. I know you still are, but you have muddled your tenses. Here is how I would write, or say that sentence.
"I have worked in a multi-national company for the past four years, and am now the Manager of that company."
Can you see the difference? You don't need to get involved in people's accents. They will understand you well enough if you are speaking English. Just pronounce your words as clearly as possible, because Americans tend to speak slowly. That's why they have difficulty understanding us fast-talking English sometimes! lol.
Sorry, all my American friends, but several of your countrymen told me I talked too fast when I spoke to them on the phone, or indeed, whilst I was in the States. lol.
Brightest Blessings my friend. I'm sure you will master the art of conversation in English. I speak German and have done for several years, but still my grammar and tenses get a little muddled. :)

Listen to your friend about the accent, but that is not the whole problem. The problem is with your syntax, how you construct your sentences. It will help you to converse in places like myLot, if you pay attention to how the others speak in their discussions. Read some of the best discussions out loud. Of course you will need to choose people from the United States to read, or it will not do any good. Make sure that you are not choosing people who use a lot of text message shorthand. Rent English language movies ( with subtitles so you understand it.)and listen to classical or older music with lyrics. Pick literature that is classic as well, like books about business, you could read Newspapers and magazines from the library, maybe. Good luck at bettering yourself.

First I must tell you that I am a American, born and raised and I am still learning English. It is a hard language to learn. My best suggestion is to see movies and t.v. in English. Most movies the conversations are similar to the English we speak, especially dramas.Action films has too much slang, it isn't the English most of us speak. The best way to learn and improve is to hear English as often as you can and practice, practice, practice.
