Have always heard that crocheting is much easier than knitting. I can knit but have no clue what to do with a crochet needle. Which do you think is easier?

I know nothing about a crochet needle except it has a hook on the end......lol My aunt taught me many many many years ago and she only knew how to knit. I can do the basics and that's about it! Thanks for responding.

I've never tried crocheting, but I do enjoy knitting. I've never tried knitting from a pattern, as I only make scarves and hats. My sister does both and she prefers to knit also. I enjoy knitting because I only need to glance at what I'm doing every so often, so it allows me to watch TV while I knit.

I can understand because looking at a pattern is like looking at a map.....lol Don't do well with either. Have always heard crocheting is much easier but will probably never know. Thanks for responding.

crocheting - knitting and crocheting are not hard once you learn hoe
I have done both knitting and crocheting and find that once you know how and learn to read patterns that one isn't any harder than the other. My great grandmother taoght me to crochet and I taught my self to knit. I haven't done either one for sometime but i found that you don't have to have your eyes on the knitting as much as you do with crocheting

I have no clue how to read a pattern. I'm one of those who can only knit afghans. Something that is strictly knit and pearl. Amazing that you were able to teach yourself to knit. Thanks for reponding.

I can do both knit and crochet. I first learned to knit when I was really young. Then I learned how to crochet about 10 years ago from my girlfriend. And I love to crochet it goes so much faster. With knitting it takes forever to make something. And I keep loosing stiches.hahahah I think you might like crocheting. Wish I lived around you I would teach you.

Thank you for the offer to teach this old broad a new trick....lol When do your classes begin? I do have a co-worker that can crochet so I may ask her to teach me. She likes me so it's a good thing...lol Thanks for responding. Have a great weekend, carolbee

Hi Carol... I've done both knitting and crocheting. Crocheting is so much easier that there's NO contest. lol It's faster too. Haven't done either one in several years, too busy with other things, but crocheting is very relaxing and calming for me...hmmmm, maybe I'll take it up again too. lol ... Have fun learning to crochet. It's pretty simple once you begin.

Thanks so much for your informative response. Next time I am in Walmart, will buy a beginner's book. I do better though if I can see the actual stitch and understand the concept before I start a project.

Me again Carol.... One more thing, go to Wal-Mart and buy a beg. crochet book. Some are in simple pamphlet form. It explains EVERYTHING you need to know about crocheting; the pattens, the various stitches, etc...very easy to understand. Believe me, they'd have to be for me to get how to do it. lol

My Grandma taught me to crochet and I did alot of things, and never saw the point of learning to knit as the two are so closely the same, why learn both?

I did start to learn to knit - it was complicated and both needles and both hands were always going and spinning and such. I didn't like it. Later when Grandma taught me crochet, it was one needle, going in and out of the loops across the top of your work piece. I liked it so I stayed with it. Just my opinion.

I knit all the time and have tried crocheting, but it frustrates me. It probably depends on which one you learned first.

I agree because I did learn to knit when I was 11 or 12 but nobody in the family knew how to crochet. Thanks for your response.

I find crocheting easier, although I have been knitting for longer. I can go a lot faster.

I've tried to teach myself to knit and find it cumbersome. perhaps if I had a friend who could teach me it would go easier. I learned to crochet when I was 8 or 9 from a friend's grandmother - and now my 12 year old has learned by watching me. It comes easy, works fast but uses a lot more yarn than knitting and is not as fine a stitch, generally. you do not drop stitches so much in crochet and only have one hook to concern yourself with. I think it is easier by far.

I have both afghans here that were knitted and crocheted. The knitted ones are much warmer and probably because the stitches are so tight. Thanks for responding.

My grandma taught me to crochet when I was 9 - still have my very first granny square blanket I made - so crocheting is easier to me. I've tried to knit and just can't get the hang of it!

It's my understanding crocheting is easier. I might not ever really know since I have no clue how it's done. Just know the results are beautiful. Thanks for your response.
