This Spring I want to plant different types of beans for dryed beans next winter. I have found out that green beans left on the vine to dry makes great northern beans, I also grew black eyed peas last summer and and going to grow some again this year. Can any one give me some advice on different kinds I can grow? I live in west centrel Mo. in zone 5. Can any one give me some Ideas?

My mother in law always grew pinto beans and used them like green beans until she had enough, then let the rest dry for dry beans. The green pods aren't as long as some of the "green bean" varieties and don't have as many beans, but they're really good and easy to grow almost anywhere.

Beans - Fire beans
I had very good results with what we call fire beans. They are green beans with red flowers grown on poles. You can harvest a lot when young, very tasty with a string on each side, must be removed before cooking. And one can let the beans get big and dry. The dried beans are purple with all kind of spots. They are big and tasty, the spots vanish when beeing cooked. Happy mylotting!
