Strange ways...People that claim to live healthfully with only sunshine and air.

I've heard different terms used Breatharians, and Sungazers. The people who practice this claim that they can survive on staring at the sun and breathing deep and getting all of their nutrients from sunlight. One man has claimed to have been living for 8 years without food, and occasionally drinking a cup of coffee or tea just for pleasure.
I'm not talking about fasting here, folks.
An aussie woman, Jasmaheen claims that she lives off of sunlight alone. Only occasionally eating food for pleasure. Allegedly a follower of hers died of malnutrition, but others claim that it worked for them for years.
Some say they've been doing it for over 30 years, by staring at the sun everyday in the evening (without blinking) when the rays aren't so damaging to your eyes. Some claim that they need only stare at the sun for 6-10 minutes 3-4 times a week.
I'm very open minded. Perhaps not open minded enough to believe that this is healthy. Sunshine does help your body produce vitamins, but not all vitamins, and I think that this is just crap.
Maybe they park their rear in an area where lotsa bugs are flying around, and hope that when they breathe deeply they inhale some protein...
what do YOU think? Ever heard of this or anything like it?

hello! thank you for sharing this idea. This is my first encounter with such practice. I can't stand without eating something in 5 hours. For sure, i am not comfortable to do what they are doing. One more, i kept on sneezing every time i look to the sun (i don't want to sneeze for 6-10 minutes). Maybe this is true for some people but for me, definitely i cannot do it. :-)

I have read her book. She doesn't claim to live off sunshine but off of "light"=life force emergy. I am a very open minded person and believe in mind over matter. the power to heal, and the amazing things that can happen because of Faith. However, I believe her claims to be 100% false. Every test to prove that she does not need to drink or eat have resulted in her becoming very ill or dehydrated. And she claims that is because she was not allowed to perform the trial in an environment to her liking and it was in a more controlled setting. It would have to be a controlled setting so she wouldn't have access to any food.
The point she does make in her book is that when we are released form the emotional shackles associated with eating - such as eating or not eating for emotional reasons then we are truly free. She talks about people with bulimia or severe obesity, etc. In otherwords, making it something that is no longer an emotional necessity. In that sense, i agree with her. But in every other sense, I just think she is a person looking to make a sensation and at best she is a scientific oddity or does a good job of convincing herself and at worse she is leading people to harm.

I've never heard of it, and frankly it sounds ridiculous. It's not physiologically possible. The body needs nutrition, and the sun and water don't provide what you need.

This is a load of crap!!! I have heard of a cult that is a little like these. They are called the remnants. They mixe diet and religion. I know a women who is 47 years old and weighs barely 68lbs!!! They tell you to pray and you are only to eat when Jesus tells you to. People want to ban smoking but what about these groups? They kill people faster.

Well to me it sounds very odd though a couple of years there was this woman on tv who lived from air like just breathing it.So she was never hungry she said and she doesn't have to buy a lot of food because she doesn't it.Very cheap isn't it.So i hear this more often.Maybe it's true but why would God give us food if we don't need it right?
So i keep to having food instead of air or sunlight as there's not a lot of sunlight in my country.

Although the breatharians and sungazers may be dishonest, I am not. As I stated this is what I've read of them. I am not saying you can live from sunlight and air, I don't believe that it's possible to live solely on air and light.
