The stars are the plusses and minuses that people give you for your questions and responses. If you mouse-over the star you will see a number from 0-100 the latter being the best.
The way I personally think of the ratings.
6 -- some good answers but a lot of junk as well
7 -- short answers sometimes sarcastic and sometimes wrong information
8 -- good answers just not enough information
9 -- very good responses with accurate information
10-- the best of the best... very rarely found around MyLot with people with high ratings.
work on that 8 to bring it up to a 9... I know you can do it... a + for you!

I asked the same thing, about the stars it turns out that people rated you + so many times that you're now a Lieutenant General. The 9th star is for Generals and the tenth for General of the Army.Be careful, you can also go down to Lieutenant rank(star 1) or lose everything ,become an simple officer, then next thing you know it people'll call you a war veteran.

From what I can get from the other discussions is that you get a star with a rating when you reach your 100th Post, although I'm pretty unsure how it comes to that number placed within it, try looking at some of the other posts.
