Is It Safe to Change Browsers?

One of the programs I've joined recommends that I switch to a different browser - I think it's Firefox. Please excuse my "dumbness" when it comes to this because I've nevver used anything other than what I had when I got my computer. Anyway, I'm half afraid to do it before getting some advice. Is it difficult to do and will it give me lots of problems? I'd appreciate any help here!

I am not 100% sure of what that is, as everything I know about computers, I figured out on my own (stumbled on). But, I will tell you, if it is one program that wants you to change from something that you are use to and comfortable with, I would have to consider how important that programs is to me.

Opera isn't necessarily faster but it is a very good browser it matches just about up to Firefox I'd say, theres apparently a new browser called Flock also out which is a must to try out I'd think, as to what I've been told

I have Firefox myself. First, I have a MAC computer so I don't even have IE, but the Mac browser Safari which is "nice"--but limited and I came across the same problem that some website weren't accessible with Safari browser. You can still keep the original browser and just simply add on Firefox..so now I have two browsers, the Safari which I rarely use now, and Firefox--also best of all Firefox is freeeeeeee :)

I know you've mentioned before that you have a Mac. That's what my brother has and he swears by them and always asks me when I'm going to "wise up". I like the part that it's FREE too! Actually, otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion because I sure can't afford to pay for anything for my computer right now...lol.

When I started using broadband I had a couple of problems and consulted my internet provider. They strongly advised that I change to Mozilla Firefox. I did, reluctantly, but have never looked back. Firefox is MUCH better and much faster and much easier to manage.

I highly recommend Firefox. I've been using it for a couple of months now and I love it. If you do a lot of get paid sites I especially recommend it because you can have up multiple tabs at once. Firefox is supposedly better than IE because you don't get as many viruses and so far I have found that to be true. The only problem I encountered with Firefox when I first started is that some sites like hotmail didn't work as well because they are more compatible with IE but with Firefox you can install plugins that will fix the problem. I have a new computer and use Vista now and I haven't had any problems at all.

Browsers are all pieces of software. There is no danger in trying one or another. You can even use multiple browsers on your computer at the same time. I have still IE installed on my PC, even I switched long ago to Maxthon - browser on the same driver as IE, but with many additional options. If you prefer not to clog your PC by actually installing any new programs, you can use portable versions of them. This way, you just run the executable, and close it when needed. No records in registry, no drivers installed. Couple of months ago, I prepared article about browsers and their features. If I remember correctly, it is about 400 at the moment on the market. I would not recommend using some new titles without thorough test, as the software might carry Trojan, or be just full of bugs. Maxthon, Firefox, and Opera, are all tested and each has advantages and disadvantages. Just try and see, what you like.

Firefox is my browser of choice, anniepa, because I find it so much easier to navigate than IE. You should have no problem with Firefox other than a few sites still are not compatible with the technology. I think it is a far superior browser than IE7. Microsoft really needs to fix some issues with IE7, because a lot of people have problems with it. There are lots of good browser options out there. I also like Netscape, Flock, and Opera. IMO, they are all easier to use than IE7. Firefox has all sorts of interesting add-ons that you can download to use-as many as you choose, and there is a nice selection of skins. Hope this helps in your decision.

Firefox is an excellent browser. It is one of the most recommended browser to lessen viruses infesting your PC especially if you have some viruses that already attacked your PC.Unfortunately, if you have programs that are not compatible with firefox, it wouldn't be able to open it up .That is the only setback I can tell you from my experience with it!

When I married my husband I had only ever used Internet Explorer and Netscape. IE was much easier and I pretty much thought that that was as good as it got. My husband was die hard Firefox all the way. He hated everything else. I complained and at first I hated it, after all it was a little different. Now I couldn't live without it. I love the tabbing features and the special menus. I love how easy it is to do so much more. I can't imagine doing all that I do on the net today without the faithful Firefox. Fear not, you are coming into better things!

There is really nothing to it, I have recently switched from IE (Internet Explorer), to Firefox, all you have to do is download the program and install it. If you want, it will give you the option to use it as your default internet browser. Hope this helps.

Well IE is not only hackable but it gets infected with spyware very very easily , so it is not only safe but necessary to change to any other browser , the cookies can be stealen very easily in IE whereas firefox uses 128 bit SSl protecion! So better use firefox or netscape!

Personally I think the best 2 browsers are Firefox and Opera, although I'd recommend you try both to see which you find is better, Firefox I think is the better one as it has a lot more add-ons even one which allows you to download from Youtube, although Opera has a nice handy minimize and maximize button which allows you to view the site like you would with different windows, I think that Firefox tops Opera personally because of the add-ons, and I'm not aware that Opera has any.

It is safe because Firefox is the safest browser, ever. I think the program you joined to is best viewed with Firefox so they recommend you to switch browsers. I've been a Firefox users for over 2 years and I've been satisfied with the security and faster loading time compared to any browser.

There is really no problem in switching browsers. If you are using Internet Explorer and if you switch to Firefox then you will have a much better internet experience than before because firefox is much advanced than internet explorer and provides a lot more facilities. I use firefox to download movies from youtube, using scripting facility in firefox, which otherwise is impossible using internet explorer.

It's very much ok to change browsers. Firefox is a very nice alternative to Internet Explorer. In fact, it is not an alternative for me anymore. Firefox is my default browser. I like it much better than Internet Explorer. It is much easier to use and there are many add ons that could help you a lot when surfing the internet.

Hi Annie...
Saw this discussion and wanted to add my reasurances about changing to Firefox. When joined Mylot I didn't like the fact that Intenet Explorer or Mylot had a built in spell checker. David switched me over to Firefox and I really like it...and the fact that it underscores misspelled words and helps me to correct them.
I find it very reliable and am sure you will too. Enjoy...and take care...

Well it is actually a safe change to roll over to Firefox, because you don't really get popups at all, I repeat NOT AT ALL maybe 1, or 2 but it is WAY more protective haven't had a virus since March 07'. And I also recommend that you update your hosts file over here: (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). HELPS A WHOLE LOT WITH BUGGING OUT THOSE VIRUSES :D.
