Around five years back I was somewhat a chain smoker. I used to smoke a full packet of cigarette daily. However, one day i decided to quit and it was just a happening that worked with me. Today, I can say I have completely stopped smoking and yes it feels great saying that it is really hard to do so. But with a self determination and strong will power anyone can stop smoking, What do you say?

Yes they surely can!
At first it would be hard, as in real hard but they'd be used to it eventually and stop in no time. My uncle tried to chew gums when he's longing to smoke and it worked.

Congratulations on quitting! You will not regret it! I quit September 1993. Believe me, it was not easy! I had a lot of stress at that time (too long to go into here-check out my articles on Helium.com) and knew I wanted to quit. That is the first step. I knew that cold turkey would not work for me, I tried that previously. So, I weaned myself off them. I was a pack and a half a day smoker, so I would smoke a few less per day. When I would get in my car to go somewhere, I left them at home. I put myself in situations where there was no smoking allowed. Before I knew it, I was down to a pack a day and then a pack lasted for 5 days etc. That's how it went for almost a year. It took me that long to get used to not smoking. To help me get over that final hump, I used the nicotine patch. That really helped. One of the biggest factors to help me was that my husband kept telling me how I stunk. That really helped me want to quit. He quit the year prior to me. He just passed away from Stage IV Lung Cancer on Dec. 30,2007. Smoking can and does kill. I am so happy to be smoke free. I never get sick anymore from anything.

i believe quiting in smoking has to be a big courage and will power to do it...because there are many people who try to stop smoking but they got so many reasons and alibi not to pursue smoking and even try to cheat with themselves,,, my question is what is the benefits or pleasure that they get from smoking....

I have made the choice to quit smoking. I started the nicotine patch this past Friday. It is very hard for me. I don't lack the determination, I just don't have strong willpower. It will take some time, but I CAN do it.

It's good that you've been able to stop. Congratulations! I'm trying to quit smoking. It's kinda hard to quit the stuff entirely even if I'm aware of the harmful health effects. I think I lack the determination. The past few days have been hard but I've been able to reduce the number of sticks I smoke a day. Do you have any tips?
