Does anyone else hate having to pay the electric company every month?

I'm tired of paying out money every month to the electric co. I want to try living without it. Or at least cut way back on my usage.I plan on using oil lamps and candles for light. I'll go to the library for computer access. I already heat part time with a kerosene heater. I'm trying to cut my 60.00 a month bill in half. My goal is to do this within in the next two months.

If it was mine I would not have been able to pay it. We live on a very tight budget.

That's what you pay in the summer? Wow! We don't pay that in the winter!

Well, I do live in a 3 bedroom house & the temps do reach the high 90's, tho only 1 100 this last summer. But it seldom goes below the upper 70's - and that's at dawn, still 90 at midnight. Very uncomfortable, I don't know HOW people settled here before A.C.

The things that cost the most for electric are heat, washer, dryer, refrigerator. Our base rate, without using it, just to keep it on is $50 where I live. We had our roof redone and it cut our heat and electric bills in half. We're about $68 in summer and around $200 in winter. We don't heat some rooms that we don't use in winter and we don't cool the rooms unless it's horrible hot in summer and only the ones we're in.

Sorry this printed twice, the mylot page kept kicking me off so I paged backwards and started again to submit over and over again. If finally took. Also cooking costs a lot. You should find out what the base rate for just having it on is from the electric company. IF $30 is the base rate cutting it in half would truly be using none. If the base rate is like ours, then you can't get there from here. Our clothes line saves us lots of money in summer. If you know someone who is taking a good wood stove out of there house, that would be great, especially if it has a cooking surface on it. You could heat and cook, too. My brother got one when someone was remodeling as a barter for doing a little work and someone else I know got one for cooking for someone. Good luck. Let us know how you do and take care.

i just got an energy saver washer and dryer and that has helped with the electric bill and we have gone to using the lights only when we have to like in the day time there are no lights on and at night the only time we use the lights is when i need to see to cook or read something but other than that the tv is on and it lights up most of the room and we try to use fans and open the windows instea of running the ac and if we have to even though we have central heat and air we use the window unit that is in our bedroom to cool just that room off and it has saved us alot of money
