"Mom, where are you?" "I'm in a hospital." "What happened, which hospital?" "I don't know, I never been here before. Why are you not with your mother? I've 3 childrens, and no one is here with me. I'm alone. I guess the doctor did not call you, to let you know" "No mom, no doctor, or anyone else, called me. What happened?" "Don't worry, I'm ok now. they moved me to another place." "Where are you, mom?" "I'm in hotel-legare." "Mom, what happened?" "I fell to the floor, near the door, in my room, I screamed & screamed, but no one came. Finaly, Sandra came & they put me on the bed. After, an ambulance took me to the hospital. I knew you will not know where to find me, so I asked the doctor to call my son, to let you know..." "Mom, are you ok? Tell me where are you, so that I could come see you" "I'm better now, in another place, they are going to put me in a room. I'm in a nice little room, with little furniture. Why aren't you here? I don't want to talk about it, any more."
Sandra was her Head-Nurse in her Residence-Nursing-Home, Lev-Tov, in Montreal.
Hotel-Legare might have been a refference to the Jewish-General-Hospital, on Legare street, in Montreal.
The above event took place at the end of December, 2004.
When I inquired about it, at the Residence's front-desk; none of the staff, nurses, paitients, neighbors had any knowledge of any fall, screaming, ambulance, or hospital that day, or any other day that week. nothing unusual was recorded in the log, that entire whole week. Upon my call to Lev-Tov, my mom was ok in her room a sleep & well.
This story was repeated to my sister, and to the owner of Lev-Tov.
Than, Mom stopped bringing it up.
Tuesday, January 20 at 10 am I received a call from my sister: "Mom fell, by the door, in her room, and screamed. Sandra, head-nurse, picked her up onto the bed. Later, after not liking her breathing, they called an ambulance, which took her to the Montreal-General-hospital."
Mom was never in this hospital.
I rushed & picked-up my sister & we left for the hospital, to see our mom.
The emergency ward was swamp with people.
A nut-house.
Doctors, nurses, orderlies all busy running in every which way.
A mad-house.
We stopped in the midst of it all, asked one of two nurses near us: "Excuse me; I'm looking for my mother." I offered no other info, no name. A doctor, which we didn't address, replied: "Oh, you must be the son. Your mother asked me to call you, her son, to tell you where she is, so that you could come visit her. I didn't get a chance to call you."
"How do you know which son? Which mother? I might be any son, looking for any mother? There are a million mothers here." "Your mother is there." Pointing to a boot covered with curtains. We proceeded to the boot to discover Mom.
Mom passed om January 21, 2004.
I miss her.
Did she realy had dementia, or just stricken with unexplained-abilities?
