So, my son turned 3 on Halloween of 2007. He just started using the potty and is now fully potty trained. The other day though, he was acting scared to go poop on the potty. He held it in all day and acted as if he was in pain. The Dr.'s office said to use some Kyro Syrup in everything he drinks. I did that and he finally went poop. The next day it was the same thing all over. I don't know if his poop hurt one day and now he is scared or if it is just too hard for him to push it out. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a friend who's baby wouldn't poop for a while, the Dr said it was normal BUT the tip i got was to use prune juice. Get your son to have prune juice on a regular basis & it will help his poops to be softer & if he goes & realises it no longer hurts to go, then maybe he'll be ok. I haven't had this problem as of yet but i hope this helps some, kids love juice so hopefully it works for you! Or if he likes fruit - try letting him a lot of 1 fruit (apricots & grapes work) for a day & then see how you go. Good Luck!

His diet is incomplete. Hes eating too much prepared foods. Change his diet to veggies and cut down on his milk. Give him green veggies and raw carrots, shredded cabbage. He needs more ruffage in his diet. Stop with the soda pop and cookies. Stay away from laxatives. Laxatives are habit forming and once his system gets accustomed to them he will become addicted. A proper diet will cure his problems.

Give him fig newtons as a snack food and mix prune juice with his regular juice and water. It won't hurt and it will make it easy for him to go.

Try asking him why he doesn't want to go. Some kids get scared when the water splashes - if you put a piece of toilet paper in the toilet before they go it helps. If the karo syrup helps - you can keep up with that, but it is pure sugar. Did you try apple juice? It has lots of fiber, and less sugar than the corn syrup. Good luck!

My sister is sort of a super mom and she balances her toddler between 2 bananas a day(firmer poopies) and 2 cups of applesauce or 2 yogurts (softer poopies).Best of luck.

I would take a look at his diet and make sure he is getting enough liquids and fiber. You may also want to try giving him a warm bath, that always seemed to help my son quite a bit. If he still doesn't want to go and it just seems like the problem is that he is scared, I would keep putting the Kyro Syrup in his drinks, that way he will get use to going regularly and over come his fear. Did you ask your son why he is afraid to poop?
