Am I the only one out there that has had a problem whith neighbors stealing hay? For many years I dealt with this problem. They would even steal hay when I was down to ten bails. They would take half the stack. I even put up a servailance camera, but they managed to cut the wire. Three different times! I caught them in the act, and they took off running back to their house. The police won't do anything unless it is caught on camera. Even then, you would have to catch them stealing over $500 dollars worth for them to get into any real trouble over it.
Well, I solved the problem. I started stealing it back. After a couple of times, they decided to stop it.

I live on a farm. We haven't had people steal hay but they have set it on fire. It was 2 kids down the road. Our big issue is the neighbour kids riding their bikes up the road and teasing and throwing rocks at our cattle. Now this may not seem like such a bad thing but I think it's cruel and what happens if someday our bull decides he doesn't like it he will run through the fence and then then the kids will be hurt, he'll be put down, and we'll be in a load of trouble.

I'm sorry, I read this and I had to chuckle. Stealing hay? I'm sure that must be very annoying but it seems like you've dealt with it properly. Its unfortunate to live next to people you can't trust.
I live in the city, so no I don't ever have a problem with neighbors stealing hay.

I can't say that I have ever had any of my hay stolen as I only have about 6 acres of alfalfa ground and I have it baled in big rounds or when I do use small squares that get put in my barn immediately. It would not be wise for someone to try to steal hay from my barn because the only way to it is up my 1/4 mile driveway, right by the house. I do think someone is stealing square bales of alfalfa from the place across the road, and it's very private back where the hay stacks are located. This is an easy target because the owner does not live on the property, he lives about 10 miles south. I am trying to catch the people in the act so that I can call the cops with a license plate number. This way, I can call the sherrif's department immediately with the plate number and they can meet the people at their house. And they'll have the evidence in their truck.

Hmm, I have never really had that problem. However, a problem that did recently start is that someone comes and cuts all the twine off of all the bails. And we are talking like fifty to sixty bails too! So it really started to become a problem until we got a guard dog! Since then we haven't really had any trouble!

I dont live in a place with much hay but once one of my neighbors did plug their garden hose into our tap started using our family's water to water their lawn. This was before our neighborhood had fences built, after the fences were in, it never happened again. :P

That is simply wrong and horrible. I can't believe the police woulden't do anything about it. I am glad that you came up with a solution, though. They need to learn a few lessons. That would really have bugged me a lot if I were in your shoes.
