I don't know if this ever happens to you but I was in a store the other day and this woman walks up to me and give me a little hug! She started a converstion about how have you been etc. I could not...for the life of me place where I had met her or who she was. It took a few minutes of converstation which I skirted with general answers before it clicked where I had met her. Through a mutual friend and we had gone out to eat once together. Anyway...has this happened to you and do you have any quick ways to associate a face with the name?

Yes, it happens to me all the time. I do upholstery and I have had lots of customers in 32 years...hard to remember names...but usually I will remember faces. I dread when other people come up to me and then I would feel obligated to introduce them...sometimes I can't remember names...how embarrassing. As we get older, it will happen more. We have so many things crammed into out heads that we have a hard time sorting it all out...I think sometimes I have Half Heimers....haha

It usually takes me about a week or two to remember the name that goes with the face.

One of my better qualities is remembering names. I don't forget first names, ever. I can run into someone that I haven't seen for 35 years or more and will always remember their name. Somehow I am able to do association with names and faces. I've been out of high school since the early 60's. I see many people from when I was a little girl, teen years or high school and still remember their names. Most often the person I am talking with doesn't recall my face but does the name once I explain my maiden name. Do get all kinds of responses that people are amazed that I remembered them. Can't always recall what I did yesterday or the day before...lol

It happened at a wedding recently. I have only met my husband's aunt twice and it had been awhile since I had last seen her. She just started talking to me. I had to ask my husband afterward who she was and I was like oh yeah. I am not good with faces until I have seen them on a regular basis.

LOL yeah jill! this has happened to me before. a few times. ^__^;; i don't really have a good memory and sometimes it embarrasses me a lot. LOL
i can't exactly remember the time when i have forgotten a person and the next time i met her, i didn't remember her and took me a lot of time to remember her and it was actually after we had parted ways that i got to remember her. LOL there were a few times that i would see a person and we would say "hi" to each other, me thinking that the face is familiar and even without really knowing who it is would wave back, and then i would ask my friends to help me remember who the person was and what was his/her name. ^__^;;

My memory is not that great either. There are many people who have crossed my path or whom I have at one time or another been acquainted with, but quite often, when I bump into them later in life, I just can't place a name to the face. It can be embarrassing sometimes, especially if the other person can rattle off your name and you can't reciprocate the same way. Then there are those times where I can recall the face, but I can't for the life of me place that person in the right setting - was he an ex-colleague, ex-university or ex-college friend or someone whom I knew when I was in the Navy? I am not that young anymore, so maybe people can understand if my memory fails me at times.

Talk about memory, it took a while for me to recall what I wrote here about memory lapses...LOL. Six months and probably about a thousand posts ago are enough to make me a little forgetful. But you can't beat my 86-year old mother-in-law..her memory can be as short as 10 minutes. Anyway, thanks for your vote, which I appreciate very much.

Yes, it has happened to me a lot. My parents, and both sides of my family are well known throughout the church community in Oklahoma, and I've been to so many churches and conventions it's not even funny. However, I didn't pay attention to anyone growing up. So when I went to college, a Christian college that my family is very familiar with, I had people coming up to me and greeting me by name. All I did was either smile and nod, or ask questions to see if I could figure out who they were. Most of the time I did OK. But there were a few times I flat out asked who they were. I mean, how am I supposed to remember all these faces I've seen growing up? Even the professors! I had no clue, lol.

HaHaHa, oh I'm sure this has happened to alot of people including me.
I had some girl come up to me years ago who knew me in Jr. High School and unfortunately, I had NO idea who she was. I felt terrible and apologized but had to ask her what her name was....I said Oh yeh, now I remember. I didn't and till this day do not know who she is, haha. Isn't that awful? She knew everything about me and who I hung around, etc........I couldn't place her at all.
