Another Gay/Bible discussion from me...

But would you expect anything else? I happened upon a site that my brother frequents: www.exgaywatch.com . My brother responded to an article about evangelicals and their anti gay rhetoric. His words rang so true for me. So I decided to start a discussion about it. Here goes.
There are a total of six verses in the Bible that may or may not pertain to homosexuality. There are a ton of horrid things that are happening to human beings that have nothing to do with homosexuality. Yet, people like Dobson, Robertson, and the late Falwell are obsessed with the six verses. How can you call yourself a follower of Christ if you only work to repress people and not to help people? It boggles my mind. Any thoughts?????

A. Embarrasment.
At all the f4g priests that buggered little kids under their charge.
B. Denial.
At all the f4g priests that buggered little kids under their charge.
C. Waste of time.
Why try and convert and save those that don't want to be and have no interest.
D. They were happy with the way the English language was, and detest their happy word "gay" being stolen and used by unmentionables.
E. Noddy and Big Ears were no more f4ggots than Bill Clinton.
F. Buggered if I know.

It's just homophobes grabbing whatever they can find to support their bigotry. This quote shows insight into that kind of behavior:
"I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." --Susan B. Anthony

It really is sad - usually they target insecure young men, make them feel bad and dirty and then try to brainwash them, causing further unhappiness down the line. I'll have a look at the site, never been there, as I'm quite happy to be gay and if some guy or group of guys want to lay their hands on me, they are quite welcome to. But there will be no converting - they'll be uttering blasphemous profanities though!

Actually, do check the site that I referenced. They are a group of people, gay and gay supporting that focus on the ex gay industry and show the side that the machine does not want us to see. They focus on the fact that no ex gay group can actually document change in desire and the discuss these matters. It's a good site, although I don't often feel smart enough to reply.

Simple, they don't see it as repressing people, they see it as saying a sinner.Have you ever heard the saying love the sinner , hate the sin? Most are looking at it that way.All homosexuals have to change their ways or they will burn in hell.
I don't believe this.In fact it is this stance that makes me proud that I am not a Christian. Why do they have to try to save everyone, especially when most people are happy just the way they are? There are many Gay Christians and they are not oxymorons.and I bet they respect others beliefs.

I can't stand that saying "Hate the sin, love the sinner". That is such a cop-out to me. I am with you that I am proud to say I am not a Christian for this reason.

It always amazes me when 'Christians' turn away from those people that Jesus himself would have accepted with open arms and gone out of his way to protect and help. I am with you sweety these people have lost the true essence of what Christ was all about and why he came to earth! xxx

The religous right has always only pushed their own views, while ignoring the true word of God. I find it interesting that these people who choose only these certain verses to preach and base their "Holier than thou" attitude, choose to only follow what portions they agree with. Take for example, the very men you mentioned, all have extravagant churches, and honnestly live better than a large portion of the world. Fancy cars, body guards, fancy homes, fancy clothes.. living in the lap of luxury.
Not many people pay much attention, but it does say in the bible that God said, said not to build temples to worship him. Well, if all of these "men of god" truly are what they claim, why then do they continue to expand their temples?
How can we trust these men to preach to us what they perceive as right based on one or two verses, when they completely ignore teh rest of the bible.
I haven't given great though to homosexuality and what the bible says, because the only thing I firmly believe is that my God is a Loving and forgiving God. John 3:16 through 3:18 says, " For God so loved the world that he gave his own begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everylasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through hi might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God."
I think the key to that is "He that believeth in him is not condemned."
So take what you want from my little rant. I do not feel it is my job to cast judgement on other peoples lives, just as I believe that everyone will attone for their own actions, but to condemn a person for loving who they love is to me not what my God would do, he loves all his children, with all our faults and graces.
