Why is abbreviated such a long word?
Why is a boxing ring square?
Why does the rain drop but snow falls?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic is rush hour?
If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Well the root word is brief and briefs are either mens under shorts or a short statement so it is "a"short something.
Have you ever seen a boxers face after he has been a boxer for awhile? It is usually pretty square from being beaten so much. Maybe they are trying to make him feel at home!lol
It does not snow here so we do not know too much about it, but when it rains, we do say rainfall not raindrop.
The rest of them are true though especially Congress being the opposite of progress. You missed one though. Townhouses are not usually found in town. They are in the suburbs.
