Does anyone know the trick to get the smell of garlic off of your hands? I made Chicken Picatta last night and used garlic, of course, and can't seem to get the smell to go away. I've heard before to use lemon juice so I did, but it didn't seem to work.

If your sink is stainless steel and not ceramic rub your hands on the faucet. Or you can buy something at Bed Bath and Beyond to rub your hands on that is also stainless steel.

My sink happens to be stainless steel. What a cool trick. I've never heard of this before. Thanks for letting me know. I will definitely try it next time.

I either use lemon juice from a real lemon and sprinkle a little salt and rub that and it works for me. When I haven't had a lemon I use tooth paste and salt and scrub that in good then soap and water afterwords good luck and a happy new year to you and your loved ones.

I didn't try it with salt, so I'll try that next time. Thanks.

It should go away in a day or 2. I normally just leave it since it doesn't bother me all that much. If it starts to annoy me I normally just put on some scented lotion. Anyway. Next time to prevent it from getting on you...buy some latex gloves (the no powder kind) and put those on. Keep a large box in the kitchen. Its also good for working with raw meats. It keeps your hands cleaner and you can just toss them when you're done. Learned that from Alton Brown...=P

aside from those natural ways of removing the smell of garlic..try to use "branded" or "with good quality" liquid hand soap... it does the trick however those are brands here in the Philippines... i believe quality brands in the United States also do the trick...
have you also tried pure dishwashing liquid?

Thats one reason why I hate to cook with garlic. I have been told that if you rub a butter knife between your hands that the garlic smell will go away but so far I haven't tried it yet. I normally just use a good hand scrub that has a nice smell to it, that normally helps the smell go away.

Thats what I hate about cooking with garlic. The smell is so great that I have to wash my hand over and over with soap just to get rid of the smell.
