Some people... sometimes I hate my job!

Don't you sometimes wish you would have a job where you didn't have to deal with every cretin who comes along? For instance, I work part-time at a PC store, and today a guy comes in and asks if I can print something from his USB stick. I sad "sure", he gives me the stick, i plug it in and wait, suddenly the anti-virus signals me that the stick is virused, and tries to clean it. I don't know what happened, but afterwards, the pc couldn't read the stick, and I didn't get to print whatever the guy needed. I apologize and explained the situation. Then the dude got nervous, he didn't become rude or violent or anything, but you could sense an annoying tone and hatefull attitude around him. He clearly was focused on me, even though I explained I couldn't do anything about it. Anyway I kept my cool and a civilized tone untill he left, but man I was one step away from kicking his head in. I mean I hate when this happens, someone talks to you like s#it and, of course, you can't do anything about it! I'm seriously thinking of quitting and finding something else to do. I mean today it was this guy, next week someone else... You really have to be really calm and cool to handle all the morons you come across...

Welcome to the wonderful world of customer service. It is one of the hardest jobs. And that goes for whether you are dealing with the public in any fashion. Face to face or over the phone. Personally I prefer the call center route. You did the right thing and the good thing. I know the feeling. Give it time. Instead of wanting to kick some butt, it will roll off your back. No one person is worth your job.

:) Yeah I realised this isn't easy. The actual work is nothing, but dealing with people is a whole another thing. I'm employed there for less than a year, took the job because I needed gas money at first :P Then I saw that it worked out pretty well, and I could do college and work, so I stuck to it. I like the job, and so far this is my only problem with it.

Relax man!! Here's what you said .. it seems that you expect that tomorrow there is another idiot. Try be calm down. One day is different from another day. If you do not like your job..ok...You striving to find a job that you like. But leave every thing because of a little thing like this is not good. Idiots you find everywhere .. I do not think the problem is a silly because if you were well i think you not be so annoyed. Life is good!! Relax.

Oh don't worry about me I'm cool! :P I'm just venting here, better this way than kicking the guy's head in, believe me. And this wouldn't be a problem if it happened once in a while, but this stuff happens several times a week...

That's what I also feel, I have problems in dealing with co-workers. They compete for the salary but are sometimes work too lazy, they would even depend som much from you. Good thing is, I know better than them. I have thought of being a boss of my own, I'm considering to start my own business and be a good employer!;) You can never serve two masters at one time, so better to just do your job and ignore those who bothers you..

I have one colleague who works in the store with me sometimes, but most of the time I'm alone. It ain't a pretty big store. :P I've never had trouble with my boss or colleague. We're all in the same age range and we get along great.

This is most certainly true! It's hard to deal with the public. Even if you are just the upfront person they act like its your fault when something goes wrong. But turn the tables and if you blame them they are innocent! I know where you are coming from...it's hard to stay cool with the public. I sometimes wonder how some of them drive their cars from place to place!

Ha! Don't get me started on traffic! :)) Anyway, hope I don't get too many people like this guy in 2008. I need peace and quiet for once! :D

Well the job pays well, I like what I'm doing mostly, and I'm good at it :P, the hours are very flexible (I make my own hours), and overall, it's pretty good. The job's not the problem, some people/customers are.

I completely understand! I do not like my job at all. I have some rude co-workers that I do not even bother with anymore. In my department, some of them will go and get lunch for everyone else but me which is fine because I do not eat what they eat (a lot of fried food bleh!). They could at least offer from time to time. This one lady points out every mistake I make which is not often, but when it does happen she loves to point it out. I plan to look for something else this year. I am burned out from it.

Well, if you plan to quit then you must have a fall back, something that you can tranfer to, it hard to have no work and it better to be patient when it comes to customers like that and all you have to think about is that its always part of the job. You cant please everybody.

Oh I know just what you mean. I also work in the public. I usually love it and most of the people are wonderful. It takes one rude or idiotic person tho to just set the mood for the rest of the nite.

I work as an independent contract marketer in my town and surrounding area. I meet all kinds of people whenever I'm out. I try to focus on the fact that I do not have to look at this person again once my job is over and that seems to help me maintain perspective. It is a bit different at the hotel where I work; these people are mostly repeats and I have to deal with the same old stuff over and over again. None of the difficult people I meet are worth going to jail for. Smile when they are nasty to you, it will bother them worse than anything you could come up with.

I feel your pain, I used to deal with people and to be honest, I quit because it has gotten the better of me. It's not worth the money. But going back to the guy with the USB, have you had full disclosure to the guy that his stick is infected with a virus and you're planning on cleaning it?

The thing is, I didn't clean it. Kaspersky just detected it and blocked access to the stick. I told the guy to try the stick somewhere else, but he was so outraged I couldn't print from it. So nothing was deleted or formatted, just that I print out whatever he had on the stick. So there's no excuse for him being an a$$ H01e.

First of all, keep your cool. Its really hard to deal with different kinds of people especially when you did everything to help them. Customer service is really a hard work. The worst thing about it is you cant shout at your customer when you blow your stack off. How ever if you really love your job right now, you would endure customer rantings and just go one with your work. It all depends with you if you still want to stay or go.
