Most people believe that white appearance of our hands when we wash dishes is due to the skin shrinking.Interestingly, the whitening, wrinkling, and shriveling do not occur from ocean salt water.

Happy New Year! The washing powder may clean the dust in the skin. But I have no reply with scientific reason. I am eager to know the correct reason. Thank you.

Nice thing that u observed,I think dat might b possibl because of the chemicals prevelant in the washing soaps which cause the damage to the skin as they r specially meant for the utensils....

I had always assumed that the whiteness & wrinking of our hands when washing dishes, was due to the action of the chemicals in the washing liquid.

I don't wash dishes anymore. Just wash vegetables before cooking and a few glasses every day. I use salt water when I do this. Don't remember how my hands were when I used to wash dishes, but I used warm water at the time.

The water temperature is the most likely reason. If one exposes its hand or any part of the body to cold temperatures for prolonged time, the capillary vessels contract and the hot blood is used to keep vital organs at acceptable temperatures. Most of the chemicals are now ecological and non-irritating.
