Really you're asking which is better? How can AMD top the Core 2 Duo and Quad Core chips? For many years I've used Intel Pentium chips and they scream - AMD had a good lead back then when they came out with their Athlon XP, Athlon 64, X2 and FX chips but they can't top Intel's latest chips. AMD's only victory is over the Celeron chips. Intel conquers as usual!

AMD is pretty much down for the count. Intel's Core 2 Duo family has been in the spotlight for awhile, and now it's all about the 45 nm chip. AMD is still stuck in the 65 nm realm, and likely to stay there. They outsource production for one, and they simply don't have the money to produce 45 nm chips, much less the 32 nm chips Intel has in store.
AMD is now worth less than they paid for ATI, which is itself being beaten pretty badly by Nvidia. Intel is now worth over 32 times what AMD is (funny how the number 32 comes up again). I'm sorry to say it, but Intel's biggest competitor is in the danger zone. And if they go belly-up, which the near future seems to hold, that means Intel prices will skyrocket. Even for me, an Intel loyalist, that's BAD news. :(

The whole thing really scares me. I've seen some comments from Intel's CEOs and executives that show what will happen if AMD doesn't rebound. Their CEO once said they can push Core 2 Duos to much higher clock speeds, but haven't because there is no competitive pressure to do so.
Basically they want to just sit on their lead and slow development until there is a challenge. Of course, that's how AMD took the lead before. I just hate seeing them so far behind now.
