meaning of the word ( lol)

You have the answer already, but I am happy to admit that originally it took me a while to work it out... I hardly ever use it though, I don't like that particular abbreviation. I do use: BTW (By the way) IMHO (In my humble opinion) I don't use LMAO, but I think that's quite funny (Laugh my @$$ off) though LMFAO is a little crude... as is WTF (What the..) though I admit to using that one a couple of times...

LOL stands for "Laughing Out Loud"

LOL means laughing out loud. It is one of those word that came out as a result of text messaging. There are things like OMG (Oh My God) and BFF (Best Friends Forever). It is all the things wrong with the kids today, but also alot of things right. When I was kid, we made out own slang too and it was probably discussed like this by my parents.

It is funny how many abbreviations are out there now, and nearly everyone uses them online... I see you already have the answer to LOL (laugh out loud) there are also a few others for the laughing ones.... like PMSL (p*ssing myself laughing) ROFL (roll on floor laughing) and I think there are a few others too... hehehe as for me I just use lol :) Hope this helps you...
