does anyone know about dogs in season as ive always had male dogs that have been no problem but recently i have gained a 10 month old white westie who is just about starting her first season, the problem i have is i also have a very large 6 month old rottweiller male dog who is suddenly beginning to become dominent around my partner . both of the dogs get on really well together apart from the size difference as when there playing we have to watch them at all times as the rott gets very excited and jumps on the westie which scares me incase he hurts her but apart from that they are great friends.i need to know how long does the season last for and any other info on this subject that could help me thanks mags x

You absolutely HAVE to keep the westie and the rottweiler separated during her heat, which lasts about 3-4 weeks. The best thing you can do is if you can have a friend or relative look after your rottie during her heat, especially towards the end of it. A six month old rottweiler IS capable of breeding and will try to breed your westie if given the chance. They cannot be left unsupervised at all for even a second. A male dog smelling a female in heat is capable of going through doors, crates and pretty much anything. If he really wants to get to her, he will. A much too young westie bred with a rottweiler is not going to be able to handle that big puppies. If she can carry puppies of that size at all, which I don't think she can, she will without a doubt need a c-section as she cannot possibly deliver those puppies herself and c-sections are very expensive.

I really feel sorry for you because you will have to buy diapers for your girl dog (she will have her monthly)it lasts way to long and your boy dog will try to get to her.I have my sons dog and she drove me crazy taking off the diaper and dripping all over the covers. she is to small to put outside so mI had to keep her in a room by herself she hated it and she chewed up my rug trying to get out of the room.
Good luck!
