Add Tags To This Discussion!

"Add Tags To This Discussion" - it's that intermediary step in posting your response to a discussion. What the heck is that all about???
I completely understand "tagging" and the purpose for doing it when you start a new discussion on mylot (and at lots of other places). But why does the system ask you to submit tags for your responses?
I tried adding a couple tags to some of my responses to different discussion threads. The result? NONE that I could tell!!! There were no tags showing with my response, nor did the tags I added get placed on the original discussion.
So, why the additional step in posting a response?

There you are again. How about responding to some of my posts. I see you all the time!
Sometimes it will take your tag and sometimes it won't. They never seem to like my tags so most of the time I just hit skip it. If I am the first responder now, it will usually take my tag so I try it, other than that forget it.
