Now we have got a new pet: a Phodopus.
It is a sort of small mouse with a very small tail covered of hairs.
He, or should I say she, since it is a she mouse, looks like a sort of bonsai-hamster, even if his hairs on the back of the body are grey/brown while on the ventral part are white.
We have hosted this animal which has been presented to my 23 months child by his own aunt.
This aunt had bought a couple of such pets from a pet shop, supposing to have a male and a female, and had promised to my son the first of the offsprings.
The fact is that something went wrong and my son's aunt had been sold a couple of females!
And these animals are very territorial!
At the end of a dispute between the two mice, there were a lot of wounds and scratches, so they have been set in two different cages and we have been presented of this which had been supposed to be the 'male' of the couple, so my son calls 'him' with its former masculine name which consequently has not been changed...
The dwarf Phodopus roborowskii belongs to Muridae and is a very frugal and amiable pet, who is accostumed to live in the most extreme climatic conditions in waste lands of asia from mongolia to siberia.
He is very versatile, eating not only seeds, but also insects like locusts and bugs.
I like it very much even if during the night we can hear him (or her...) turning his rat-race (a sort of treadmill for mice).
It is the third night that I get awaked by this strange noise and check the windows!
Tomorrow I'll oil the weel of the rat-race.

This new 'entry' was so casual inasmuch that we have another pet already at home: a 7 years old persian/european cat...
You can imagine which were our fears for this little mouse, moreover wounded on her little tail.
On the contrary, our cat, who is the goodest animal I've ever meet (he never scratches anybody and is always purring to my wife and me), did not shaw any interest for this new host...
While he showed a lot of interest for little birds and lizars, a lot of interest.
