On these cold winter nights your first thought is to bundle your baby up with warm sleepers and blankets but if you are not careful he may get too warm and start sweating. How do you keep baby warm but not too warm?
I try to put my son in a sleeper and a blanket at his legs. This usually works for me. It keeps him where he will not get cold but he won't wake up sweating either.
What do you do to try to regulate your baby's temperature? Sometimes it is hard to find that nice in between spot of not too hot and not too cold.

A very young baby, less than about 6 months, should have on one more layer than you do. If you wear pajamas and use 1 blanket, the baby should have a onesie, socks, pajamas and 1 blanket. Just be careful with blankets. They are not recommended for babies due to risk of suffocation. Try instead to use a sleep sack, or a wearable blanket. Or tuck the blanket under the mattress so he can't pull it up over his face. Another option is to just have heavy fleece sleepers for very cold nights. If your baby is cold, he will let you know.
Once he is about 6 months old, the same amount of clothing that keeps you comfortable is good for him.

My toddler sleeps with footie pajamas and 2 blankets (she insists on the 2 blanket thing). When she was a baby it was usually a onsie, footies and a couple of blankets to on the safe side. My kids have all used blankets from birth (swaddled with them at first then tucked around them). When she was a baby our house was very cold. We never put the heat above 60 during the day so we all bundled up--2 pair of socks, sweats, 2 shirts and a jacket in the house most days. She slept in our room until she was 14 months old because our room was the warmest in the house (at least 5 degrees warmer which makes a difference).

I base how much I bundle up my little one on how bundled up I feel I need to be. We keep our home's heat on the higher side, so a t-shirt and light pair of PJs are usually enough. If we're going in & out of the house & warm car, I'll put her in a medium weight winter jacket with a blanket and remove the blanket once she's in the car.
