Chopsticks

For people in the west or those who don't have an ounce of Chinese, Japanese blood in their lineage (or anyone from any other Asian country which primarily uses the chopsticks for eating), do you know how to use them? Share your thoughts. As for me, I do know how to use chopsticks but I don't think I could manage using them when I'm really hungry. I tend to eat less when eating with it because it takes me a longer time to eat. I figured it would be beneficial for me to use chopsticks at home so I would eat less and hence lose weight and also practice on my chopsticks skills. I bought a bunch of disposable chopsticks but only used them for 3 days since it really frustrated me that I couldn't eat as fast as I would have using a spoon and a fork.

I think it is because you haven't get used to use the chopsticks yet. When you can use it as well as me, then you know we feel using chopsticks is very convenient:) On the same way, we feel eating with fork and knife is slower then using chopsticks.

My boyfriend taught me how to use chopsticks but I still prefer using spoon and fork over those sticks...I just wonder, why in the world did they ever think of using sticks as an instrument for eating? It's hard, isn't it?

It's really hard... I just saw an article dated back in August, 2007 that 100,000 pairs of chopsticks a day were sold in Beijing without any form of disinfection! It's a good thing we don't use 'em that often, huh?

Wow...That means that 100,000 pair of hands could also be in great danger of viral infection from those unsanitized stix...That's not very nice,is it?

I don't have any chinese lineage, but I know how to use them though not the proper way. Well, atleast I can still use them!LoL Now if ever I'm hungry and was craving for a Chinese food, I don't use them chopsticks but just a pair of spoon and fork. If I'm in our house, I won't hesitate to "pig-out" and enjoy eating by my hands.

I rarely sue my hands to eat. I only eat with my hands when I'm in the province and everyone else using their hands.

I am not of any Asian background and I know how to use copsticks. I uses them mostly when eating Asian foods. If I was really hungry and the choice was to use chopsticks or my fingers I would probably use my fingers. Chopstics are not easy to work wit and take alot of practice. If I have to eat with them or it is better to eat with them I will but besides that a fork or spoon is better for me.

If the choice would be chopsticks of my fingers, I'd also use my fingers especially when I'm really hungry.

I only use chopsticks if I'm eating Chinese, Thai or Japanese, I have done since I was little, if we got a takeaway in or if my parents cooked Chinese or Thai we all always used chopsticks. I can't so much now as I have had a bad wrist and eating with them cramps it up, so if i'm at home i still do but if i'm out i'll usually switch to a fork as it takes me too long and I loose grip and look like a fool!

Im an Asian.A Malay.Your situation is just like my brother,he dislike using it as its hard for him to eat and he could not enjoy his meal as much as he does.HAHA.I do know how to use chopsticks, since young..I love to use it to eat noodles..except for eating rice..im not professional enough and for me its seems hard to pick a bits of rice using chopsticks.Better use the fingers to eat.My tradition does not use chopsticks..but i have try and are used to it. Until now, chopsticks is still my choice..but not always i have it to eat..Mostly,i enjoy using it while eating soup noodles.I think, its like awkward to use chopsticks when eating spagetti..haha..so much different.Much more nice to get the spagetti twirl around using a fork!

I tend to use chopsticks quite a bit. I learned how to use them when I was little. When I got older I lived in Okinawa for a yr and got really good at using them. Mostly because if you eat out they don't really offer forks and some places don't even have them. I have several sets of chopsticks here at home and use them from time to time when I don't feel like looking for a fork.
