I always believed that Snape was on Dumbledore's side mainly because Dumbledore said so... it was mostly in all the books where in Harry and even some teachers tried to convice Dumbledore of Snape's real color bud he wouldn't hear of it... it is also common knowledge that Dumbledore is a wise and powerful wizard who cannot be easily fooled... so even if Snape was very good in occulmency... there are other ways in which Dumbledore would have known if Snape was lying or not at all loyal to him...

I think that J.K. Rowling did an excellent job of hiding Snape's real alliances by playing with him back and forth. Dumbledore, the most revered character of all, believed in him. He was in the Order of the Phoenix. Yes, he was nasty, but that was all pretty well explained by what Harry learned in the pensieve about the way he was bullied as a boy.

I always thought that Snape was not as evil as Harry Potter seemed to think he was. The fact that he tried to protect him from the beginning, from the first book in the Quidditch game and ever since if he really wanted to hurt or even kill Harry he could have done so several times with little or no probability of being found out and even being strict and severe he is a good person, as he does not side with Umbridge and unlike Lucius Malfoy is truely cruel that enjoys hurting people. Also given the fact that he has applied several times to be the Dark Arts teacher, he is not bitter for being denied the chance and still respects and admires Dumbledore. I must admit that I started doubting him when he agreed to help Draco and then kills Dumbledore but he did redeem himself, but I do think that he is an amazing character and can't wait to see Alan Rickman does with this gem.

I guess the Deathly Hallows showed more of Snape as Dumbledore’s ally. Prior to the book, it was never implicitly exhibited Snapes’ relationship with Dumbledore. That made the last book quite interesting because basically it made me recall of the previous books – it somehow bombarded with flashbacks.:)

Well, in the first movie Snape was suspicious of that Professor (whos last name starts with a Q, can't spell it). And in the rest of the movies, when the bad guy was apprehended Snape was there, right behind Dumbledore. His appearance/history makes you wonder but his actions tell you who's side he is really on.

I've been reading harry potter books before the release of the Deathly Hallows. It never occured to me that Prof. Snapes is on Dumbuldore's side. Know what, I was shocked when I read it on the 7th book. Long before I learned that, I was praying that Dumbuldore will kill him. On the other hand, it answers my curiosity of why was Snape's still in Hogwarts despite his reputation.

Even if JK Rowling had told u, Snape was on Dumbledores side u d have had doubts.she is a good storyteller and she did well to keep us in suspence.i had doubts that snape had tricked dumbledore in that dumbledore was easily killed by snape for a powerful wizard like him.
