I have been having one heck of a time paying off my student loans. I graduated business school a few years ago and was promised that once I graduated they would help me find a job well needless to say they didn't and the only jobs I have been able to get is part-time jobs. Well I was on a payment plan where I paid $25 a month but now that I am 9 months pregnant I can't work and the collection agency that has taken my case from the department of education is hounding me for money. What do I do? I know they are going to take my federal income tax check like they always do but what else can I do?

There is some kind of hardship deferrment. I can't remember what it is called exactly. I had to do that when I was pregnant. Call your loan company and talk to them about it. Are you married? I was single. I think I had to prove that I was getting WIC or link card. Something like that.

No I am not married I am going to be a single mother. I know last year they were hounding me at work so much that I almost got fired so I had to go to this group called Ombudsman and they are the ones who got them to lay off and agree to accept $25 a month. I am going to contact them and see what they say.

Yes, I know how it is. I am still in school now so mine are still in deferrment. But I graduate in May with 2 bachelor degress. Then I have to decide if I want to go to grad school or pay back my student loans.
I know that I applied for some kind of deferrment based on the fact that I was pegnant and didn't have that much income. I don't know what it was called exactly. My loans are thru direct loans. I am not sure if that is the same company you have or not. I live in IL.

You can get the loan deferred due to financial reasons. They may charge you to do it, but it is worth doing. The loan people are always trying to screw my husband out of money with late fees on things we pay on time and have proof we pay on time; I told him to go back to school take 1 class a semester at the local college and have his pell grant cover it, any overages we will pay his student loans back with. Last year, while I was attending school full time, they sent me a huge bill for "over due" payments and all kinds of fees, but I was in school the entire time and owed nothing!

doesn't your student loan has a clause stating that you will only start to repay back the loan once you have gotten yourself a permenant job? I saw that clause in my close friend's loan contract.
