My laptop came pre-installed with windows vista. But many of the programs I install wont work in vista. So I tried to install windows xp. When I boot from windows xp setup disk, it detects no harddisk. I gives a message "No mass storage device detected". I asked my friend, she said we need sata drivers, but I dont have a floppy disk drive in my laptop. Kindly help me out to install windows xp in my laptop.

I had a similar situation. Solved via BIOS. Just uncheck the SATA option and XP will install.

It sounds like you used a Windows XP disk that didn't have SATA drivers for your computer included. You may need to get the SATA drivers from your motherboard/laptop manufacturer. I can help you if you give me the brand and model number for your laptop.
