My mother often tells me and my sisters that right after eating, we shouldn't sit or lie down because we will have bigger stomach -- big belly!
I don't know about it if it's true or not, but my mom tells me that's what my granny did so she has a flat stomach...
Have you heard about it? Is it a myth?
Thanks

well that was happen to most of my friends...after eating they either lie down sit then afterwards few months later the measurement of their waist become larger...
actually some of my cousins was told that the stomach will become flat after eating when you lie down..however that is not what happened instead her stomach become larger...and they became furious to the person who have told the info
of course if we are full our stomach became bulky a bit..however it will became more bulky if we sit so the tendency of the muscles will stretch more and became larger..
in the case of lying down the sides of the stomach are the parts that will became bulky and with the habit the stomach will became larger especially on the sides which increases the measurement of our waist

no, I don’t think this is a myth. It is said that immediately after having a meal, we should ideally go for a walk so that the fat content of the food doesn’t get a chance to get deposited on our body. The moment we are sitting idle or lying or going to sleep, the slow metabolism ensures that the fat get deposited and most of it does in and around our belly (this I don’t know why, maybe genetic).

It has nothing to do with having a big belly unless that is where you have your fat cells. After eating you should go for a walk or do some type of excersize to start burning off the calories. But if you are a thin person and don't have any trouble with gaining weight when you don't want to, then it won't matter if you don't do anything but lay around after eating a big meal. I am a little over weight, about 20 lbs., so i have to watch because it would be very easy for me to gain more. So after I eat a big supper, we , my hubby and I,go for a walk or if it is too cold outside I go for a walk on my treadmill.

I think that is somewhat myth, somewhat truth, but not for the reasons your mom says its true.. The only truth to it is, if you lay down or sit down after you eat, then you are not burning any of the calories that you just ate.. so there is some truth, but i dont think that its just your belly that will get big, you will just gain weight all over from lack of excersizing!! lol. That is why also you shouldnt eat more just before you go to bed, your body has no way to burn off the fat and calories!

It is true. In my family, we were told to sit for a while to get our meal settled, then in my in-laws, we had to sit around listening to them reminsce about times gone by (they were great at that), and they did not want anyone to get up at all. I did try a few times though. Later on, we would sit and watch Tv and well you know what happened especially to the women, and getting up and clearing the table and washing dishes did not help. It was a bad custom. So it is not a myth.

I heard that from friends and I guess there must be somr truth to it, Im not eve sure. LOL. Im not practicing it and i have a little or maybe even bigger bulge on my stomach and I dont like it. I just sit straight so to cover the bulge and also to improve my posture, i dont have the good posture and its really a struggle.

My mother used to tell us, not to lie down after eating! But she never mentioned sitting! Most people sit after a meal anyway!

Hello dear glitzypurple. I have also heard people say so. I think that it is right to say so because if we just sit or lie down after eating, our stomaches have no chance to have exercise for movement, thus we would get a bigger stomach because of lack of movement, I guess.

That's what my mum told me when I was young but she never explained why. I assume it's true because lying down will probably affect digestion.
