This is a very intriguing discussion; what an interesting question you've posted here! Although I have no scientific or technical proof of anything I'm saying, my response is based on things I've heard in classes and such, what I've learned through the years, and what I've observed (mixed with personal opinion, of course). I believe fruit flies are more "healthy," if you'd like to put it that way, than house flies. First of all, house flies are larger and noisier. They also land on things and their feet are used to taste and smell things. If they land on a pile of cow droppings and then land on your steak, although many times we don't think about it, those are pretty nasty germs being spread, especially if you eat the steak! A normal house fly may seem no more than annoying when flying around, but everything they land on is contaminated because who knows what they've tasted that's being spread. Fruit flies, on the other hand, are pretty much only out for the fruit. Fruit is healthy and usually clean. I think fruit flies are also out for the sugar! They're much smaller, although they do like to fly close to the face, which I find really annoying. I don't know if that's true for everyone else that encounters them, but that's just something I've observed. The only other annoying things about fruit flies is their high-pitched humming noise when they get close to you as well as the fact that they just die wherever. We used to find them all over our kitchen counters and table. Yuck! I don't think it would kill anyone to accidentally eat one. I don't even know if they would notice if they didn't know they were accidentally eating one in the first place. A house fly would not and should not be eaten. I think a person could get seriously ill from eating a fly. Great discussion!
