How Do You Deal With The Loss of a Pet?

Ive always had a lot of pets, however their deaths still always hit me hard. My dog that ive had for several years finally got put down last month, at the old age of 16. She was a great dog, very sweet, got along great with kids. I miss her terribly, every time I ring the doorbell, or even just walk into my house, I think of her. My ferret died in her sleep last week now too. The two deaths of two of my most beloved pets has just left me distressed. I was to get something else, I guess to try and compensate, but I dont want to feel like Im just replacing them. So my question is, how do you guys deal with the loss of pets?
