Why do so many people have such an issue with this movie? Ok, I suppose if you really get down to the nitty gritty of it, yes, I can see how people can take it and twist it to say that they are killing God for our children......but you can do the same with just about every Fantsy film EVER made! Look at Star Wars for instance.....Darth Vader, The Emperor, if you want to get technical, it parallels Hitler, so why hasn't anyone really stepped up to complain about George Lucas....if you want to push it further, Gene Roddenbury must be burning in hell....lol...I mean if you look at that futuristic view, it churns around all sorts of contoversal issues from religion all the way down to genetic manuipulation.
The Golden Compass is an amazing piece of visual FICTION. ITS A STORY folks. And if I may say a very well put together film. The cinematics are breath taking, and the animation is absolutely flawless. the story is strong, and every role is well acted. I took my 7 year old to see it, and he didn't move for 2 1/4 hours! If you have children, you know what type of accomplishment that is!!
It absolutely gripped him and he adored it! For it to be banned by the the higher ups because they are afraid of change and people having thier own personal views of God and man and everything in between! I found it outrageous that a country who says they are the "Land of the Free", ought to be run by people who BELIEVE it.
I live in Canada, I would watch this movie a thousand times....so in short, if you can get a chance to see this film watch it! Don't read any garbage about religion into it, its a fantasy story, and I wager Peter Jackson will have competetion with the new Trilogy...yes its a Trilogy, so, for all you who are against it....get ready to vent again when they release parts 2 and three. It is as powerful and The Lord of the Rings (once again a story about one supreme bad guy who controls everyone with a ring......hmmm seems like that would offend alot of people don't ya think?)
So to those of you who oppose this film, I feel sorry for your narrow minded views, for those who are willing to brave it and watch this amazing film, you won't be sorry.
Enjoy it!!

I failed to see where christians put daemons as "god" if this is what you were talking about killing god. This is a piece of fantasy, and because the author is athiest the christians have to get on him. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about people doing stuff like this to other people just cause of their belief.
This movie was WONDERFUL I really wish I could have seen it in theatres. I can't wait to start reading the books but I'd like to get the Subtle knife since I have the first and third book lol, by mistake.
anyways Just a wonderful movie with BEAUTIFUL visual effects and everything!

I adore this movie and the books...but they do end up killing God in the end, by accident lol but still. So that's why this is getting a lot of heat. So much that they're talking about not producing any more (I hate that cuz I wanna see the sequels so bad) I don't know if you read the books or not but the author clearly does not like the church and it comes through his characters very strongly and bluntly in the 2nd and 3rd book. Personally I don't have anything against God, but church and religion have done some pretty messed up things.
