Do you prefer reading/writing fanfictions or original stories? (for original stories I'm talking about stories found on the net written by non professional writers )
I've noticed that if I write a fic, even if it's not a masterpiece, then at least 10-20 people read it, instead if I write an original story I have to bribe all my friends to make someone read it.
It's difficult to read about a world you don't know nothing, but personally if I know one of my friend is a good author then I've faith his original story would be as good as the fics (or better)

i prefer the original story. because its the original and the official story and everybody in the world recognize it and acknowledge it as the original story. maybe there are good non-professional writers out there who makes fan fictions but their stories are usually read by friends and a few and it wouldn't be considered as part of the original story. ^__^
i have written some fan fiction too and i had to forced it to my friend to read it too but i still prefer the original story than mine. ^__^

Err secretbear I was NOT talking about the difference between original stories (ex Harry Potter) and the fanfictions from them (ex HP fanfics) but about the difference about writing/reading an original story from a non professional writer (ie me writing an original st.) or a fanfic

I prefer writing fanfiction because I find it easier to use characters that are already formed. You have a great sense of what they are going to say. But I think it's always the lazy way because then I am not creating as much as I should.
If a story is well written, it doesn't matter if it's original or a fan fic. Good writers have a way of making people love a story regardless.

yeah but I think you're a better writer if you manage to have an audience also for your original stories. A lot of people read and like fics of the Anime they like no matter if the fic is awful.

I definitely prefer original stories as everything was 100% the imagination of the author, and not some situations and characters someone else created that was written out of obsession or emotional fixation (of course, this may not apply to all fan fictions, but this is the case with many, I find). I think this also comes from the fact that I am not really a fan of any book series, movie, or TV series to the point where I would feel inclined to devote part of my world to it and therefore since I am not that type of a fan of anything, fanfics are pretty useless to me. I prefer stories with a little more substance to them, if you know what I mean.

i prefer the original because you can see the author's creativity out of it, the effort that has put through it, however fanfics are cute too, you can read a lot of funny stories made by the fans out of a certain original stories

I'm not a fan of fan fiction. It's true that fans want to read about their favourite characters so fanfics tend to be more popular, but original story is something different. Something that can be realy apreciated by a reader, because of the amount of work put into making the storyline.

I think that few readers appreciate the effort in making characters and storyline. They only think if they like it or not

I prefer writing fanfictions because they are simpler and you don't have to think too much, but I appreciate people who can write original stories and can get an audience of fans.

I go to fanfiction.net a lot to read stories on there. My favorite authors on there are Sorceress Eternity and gothgoddessrhia. They are both two of the best writers I have found so far.

hmm.. i really prefer original story... even though i write fanfic about a band but the story is mine itself.... is that considered a fanfic??
anyway, its nice if its really original coz you can see the effort the person put on it just to create that plot... so yeah.. original.. :D

I prefer orginial stories to fan fiction. Even if it's not the best. I know that someone worked hard (hopefully) to bring out their story. The more original stories they write the better they will get.
