My dogs nose is turning pink

Someone please help me. My poor dogs nose is turning pink on the top. It looks like the black is peeling off and sometimes it gets a scaby look. I've taken him to the vet several times and they keep saying it's an allergy and gives me a new cream to try. I've changed all his drinking and eating bowls to ceremic, but nothing is helping. If anyone has any suggestions as to what is happening I would greatly appreciate it.

I had a dog that had a nose that was spotty pink and black. It didn't bother her, I just left it alone. It did look kind of funny until we got used to it. BTW Welcome to Mylot, I hope you enjoy it here, its a nice place to make friends and just hang out.

Thank you Polly, I do like it here. Was your dogs nose just spotty or was the black peeling off to reveal pink skin underneath? Thats whats happening to my dog. He doesn't act like it's bothering him but it sometimes gets a crusty scab on it, so I have to assume it is bothering him to some degree.

I have a pom and her nose started this about a year ago, vet said there was nothing wrong. Now my shepard's nose is doing it all elase seems fine haven't taken her to the vet yet. I have read it has to do with season changes hot to cold etc... good luck

I have a dog whose nose does that, but his is cause by him running around outside chasing things in the yard with his nose stuck to the ground. He just scrapes the skin right off his nose. That is the only time I have ever seen this happen.

I really don't think that's it cause it's on the top of his nose. And I've noticed that he's turning a little pink around his mouth too. The vet keeps saying it's an allergy to something but I just can't figure out what he's allergic to. But thanks for trying to help me out.

hi. if the allergies also occur around his mouth, maybe he has a mouth problem too - like cavity or tartar on his teeth. as we know, these are also sources of bacteria. Try having his teeth cleaned by the vet. And always keep his nose dry. If his face is always wet, this may cause allergies too. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I will definitly have his teeth checked, I didn't think about that. But I've been keeping a real close eye on him lately to see what he might be getting into that is causing this, and I've noticed something really strange. When my female dog pees (this is kinda gross), he sticks his nose under her and gets it all over his mouth and nose. I don't know if this is a dog thing or if I just have the freaky dog on the block but I bet that is what is causing it. Anybody have any ideas on how to stop him from doing this???

Might it be sunburn, I have known that to happen to some dogs all the best urban

The vet said it wasn't sunburn. And we have tons of shade in our backyard. I've tried antibiotic creams, cortisone creams and moisturizing creams. The cortisone seemed to help the most (gets rid of the scaly stuff) but the black part is flaking off and leaving a bright pink in it's place.

My dog had the same problem and it was causing much concern. I started giving him 500 mgs. keflex twice a day for 10 days. keflex is a strong antibiotic. I also applied a product called "natural dog snout soother" twice a day.it has completely healed and he seems to feel alot better. I think it must have been some kind of infection. but he is doing great now.
