Do you think art should be abstract?

Why does modern tend to be abstract. I've seen so many modern artists painting something common people cannot understand. Should we tolerate this? For me, art is a way to represent a thought or an idea clearly so that those who cannot see it happening whould realize it in looking at an artwork. How could an abstract art do this? Its like a child trying to explain something so complex but does not have the vocabulary to express. I feel abstract artists are like that child. They have an idea but they dont have the skill to put that on canvas clearly. What are your thoughts on this matter?
