can some1 tell me the difference between american naturopath and australian one?

I understand that in America, there's licensure for naturopath and they are normally called the N.D. But in Australia, they are simply called naturopath. What's the difference anyway, I mean, both are practising alternative medicine but 1 is call the Doctor of naturopath (N.D) while the other is without the title of 'Doctor'.
