i've received a number of chain letters thru emails. before, i used to forward them to friends. i discussed it to a friend who is a priest. he said that chain letters are a waste of time. God wouldn't threaten us that misfortune will happen if you do not forward a chain letter you received. do you believe in chain letters? should you forward it to your friends?

I delete all chain letters. They're annoying and God isn't going around playing games about forwarding a message to a number of people through email.

I never forward chain letters. Believing that something bad will happen when you don't is superstition. That's not God's way. He probably doesn't even read them. ;)

Not all chain letters are threatening. Some are humorous or inspirational. Your priest friend is right about the ones that threaten or promise luck! No harm will come to you if you don't forward them - nor will any special luck come to you if you do. Think about it reasonably ... why should there be anyone that cares whether or not you forward an email (and how would they know, anyway). There are people, though, for whom these emails are worth a great deal of money and they are very often the ones who may have started the chain letter on its way with these threats and promises included to make sure it keeps going and eventually comes back loaded with honey like a bee! Next time you get one of these forwarded mails ... and before you send it on to anyone else, take a look at it and count how many email addresses it already contains! Think about that ... every email address there is likely to belong to someone real. Sooner or later some of these forwarded mails will come back to the person that started them off and he will collect all those addresses, put them on a CD and SELL them to spammers! If you do decide to forward mails to people, you should always remember these two things: 1) When you decide to forward something to your friends, please have the courtesy to ONLY forward the relevant parts of the message. Always edit it and clean it up as much as possible to remove previous email addresses, signatures and adverts, so that the person you are sending it to can feel special and not just the recipient of any old junk! 2) DO NOT put the names of all the people you are sending to in the To: box! Always address the mail to yourself and put all the addresses to whom you are sending it in the Bcc: box. This will mean that each person will only see their own address and yours and it means that, when THEY forward it, those are the only two addresses that will show if they have not been as careful about cleaning it up as you have. Why are the above things important? ... Because forwarded mails like this are a verygood source of information for spammers! You may be sure that you don't have anyone among your friends who would even think of sending out bulk junk mail, but what do you know of the 'friends' of the people you send it to? Many spammers and email harvesters will worm their way into the address lists of people (for example, by befriending them under some pretext on social networking sites) and will encourage the sending of these chain letters and humorous or inspirational emails. They will then harvest the email addresses contained in them by unsuspecting people (it's not uncommon to see 100 or more addresses in one of these forwarded mails) and sell them ... yes, that's right, SELLthem! A list of several thousand valid email addresses is of immense value to spammers. The response rate to a spam email may be a fraction of 1% - yes, a very few people do actually buy from spammers or it wouldn't be worth the spammer's while - but if they can send out their junk to validaddresses, that fraction of 1% rises considerably and they make more money.

Yes, I did received them and is still receiving them. Mostly on my e-mails, through snail amils and even on cellphone through messaging. I don't believe in it, as itis only a waste of time if ever I bother forwarding them to others. You're priest friend is right, He (GOD) loves his sons that He won't allow such as those to happen. Besides, those letters were just made by men who don't have anything good to do with their lives.

sometimes, i have this thought that, in a way, chain letters somehow teach unbelievers to pray. but it's sad that they will only pray becuase they are afraid that God will funish them or cause misfortunes...

I get a lot of chain letters in the email from online friends. They are insulting -- saying things like IF you love God, send this to 10 people -- Come on! God isn't behind all that nonsense. Then there are the "Friend" chains, implying that if you're my friend you'll send this back to me. I don't. On one occasion I sent the friend who sent me the chain and told her I was her friend but wasn't going to play the chain game. Then the one that says If you delete this, it shows that you don't stand up for Jesus. Hello! I delete it. That doesn't mean I don't stand up for Jesus. It just means I think chain letters are a much of hokus pocus malarky. Praise the Lord for the "delete" button. :)

If it is a "warning" of some sort, try to verify if it is true. If it isn't, let it die. Please don't pass on those warnings if they are false! There is too many hoaxes and urban legends taking up bandwidth and email inboxes these days.

I've received many chain letters ever since highschool. I even remember the ones my family received through the mail. I don't like chain letters especially if it scares the light out of you telling you that if you wont pass this around the ghost of blah blah will visit you tonight at this time blah blah. I also don't like those religious ones, because God wouldn't threaten us with misfortune like what you said. I don't forward chain letters to friends when I receive one but I did when I was younger especially if it scares me enough!! :(

I never forward chain letters or anything of that sort... It is only psychological. And all those stories they make up about people winning lotteries the next day or finding their true love... I mean come lets be real we don't live in hollywood!! This is real life, things don't revolve around a silly chain letter someone started...
