Cars.Mainly Rovers.Problem...Engine Immobilisers

I have a Rover 218sld turbo,and at the moment it's not running.
I recently had to remove the battery,as the car's been off the road for a few weeks, and had a flat battery.
When i replaced the battery, the alarm and engine immobiliser kicked in together, and now i can't get either of them off. They are both factory fitted, and i can't find any information anywhere about them.I have a Haynes workshop manual, but my partner says this is a crossover model (whatever that is).
Looking through the book, there's hardly anything that looks remotely like my car
My car was first registered in 1995,but my partner says it's late '94
I had a new key code put in in November 2005,as the immobiliser cut in.I wouldn't have minded, but i had used the car earlier that day.
I would like some sensible answers on how to take the alarm and immobiliser off,or how to remove the immobiliser altogether.
